Janitor's Tek
    #2667675 - 05/12/04 08:50 AM (12 years, 6 months ago)

Currently experimenting with substituting 1/2 manure and 1/2 dried reed canary grass,Phalaris arundinacae!

Maybe not much of a tek, but had me thinking about potency variations between pastures visited in all my cleaning life time. I am not certain, but willing to wager the most potent shrooms came at the right time of the year (Temp and Humidity) as well as fields growing the grass and the cows eating it then crapping on it.

Here is a photo, bet you have seen it if you live in the United States.

It is so easy to grow and grows wild in so many places and it does have DMT.

Just found out it is also sold as canary food, hence the name. So the janitor is heading to petco to buy some instead of using WBS to innoculate. BTW, the name of this post is a pun..my wife mentioned the original post was too much reading so may not be read by many, so something that may turn out to be a good thing would be missed. Thanks to Doc34 for inspiring the research that created the concept.

Also, read up on it before using it. Never take anyone's advice that may or may not affect your health. Start with:
http://www.erowid.org/plants/phalaris/phalaris_faq.shtml
and go from there, then make your decision to try and use it or not.

no alkaloids in the seed, but the straw is quite a good substrate with rapid rhizomorphic growth when used like wheat straw.I think if one were to carefully SHADE dry some grass one could preserve more alkaloidal content in the substrate.
If it is worth anything those of us who wander the fields in fall know the most potent semi's come from fields of canary grass.I have had 6 semi's blow my ass to oblivion(well it ended my ability to hunt acurately anyway) that come from a field containing the short canary grass and the reed canary grass growing  together.I have a large stand of varigated phalaris which I use as my staw supply.I am cultivating a bed of Ps azurescens on chopped straw and pasteurized alder chips. So far at this time of year the myc apppears to be spreading at about an inch to an inch and a half/weekly radially from the inoculation points with the phalaris straw being the super highway for the myc to spread to the chips( the myc runs up the straw FAST and spreads to the wood.
I'd like to see more of this type of experimentation.I am working up wood lovers for their medical properties. But Ps. cubensis would be an interesting comparison between two of the same isolates inoculating wheat straw and phalaris straw and an accurate assay performed. If it shows an increase in potency I will imediatly begin harvesting large quantities of the grass in bales for sale to the interested cultivator( I can deliver Phalaris by the ton!)

Interesting concept using Phalaris as substrate. Cool idea!

Sigh..this is not the same without hippie critiquing me. This would have been 200 replies long in just a couple hours  I was reading about the preparation from people that smoke the crap..since I am going on whiterasta belief the seeds have nothing of use in them, I am wonder if:
1) Freezing fresh grass to break down the plant cell walls
2) Using a blender to cut it up after it is frozen solid
3) Freezing the resulting slush again
4) Using a blender again to blend it all up
5) Straining out the pulp leaving only the liquid
6) then using the liquid with pasteurization (not sure if PCing would be a good thing) or treating with H202 and using as a mist on a casing.

Any thoughts?

I'd think the alkaloids would have to be applied far prior to casing, IOW, the former. I am unsure about the PCing part as well.

It seems the simplest thing to do would be to spawn into pasteurised phalaris straw (which is what WR alluded to).

if you are in a hurry you can sprout the seeds (like alfalfa sprouts,i suppose) & use that as part of the substrate...
hmmmmm, alfalfa is in family leguminosae --- may it has tryptophane as well?

The reed canary grass colonizes lightning fast. Will post a photo in the morning of a close up. Damn, I should have done a grow log on this of start to finish. May move this topic to grow log this weekend if I can get some decent photographs starting from scratch.
