Hi everybody after all i made it to making my spawn i now have two jars of spawn and i'm gonna spawn it in a monotub with 3l vermi and 2l peatmoss.then as casing, 600ml peatmoss and 200ml perlite. what's your opinion about my substrate? and then i've searched everywhere for a tub like 25x35x30(cm) and i cannot find anything like it, it's either too large or too short.
what do you guys suggest? can i use a lidless opaque container and use cellophane wrap instead of lid?
thanks in advance <3

Can you not get coir?? Peat is used for a casing normally, I’m sure it’ll work as a sub but you might need to adjust ph.
Also no perlite.
You can use anything that’ll be the right depth. I’ve used red bull boxes with a liner, and the bottoms of water jugs and two liters.
If the tub is a little too small just use less bulk. It’ll have a higher spawn ratio and colonize faster.

i have 2x650g coir blocks but i'm confused how to use them.some say in bricks and some in litre, so i just decided to start with something i can easily measure in litres, i forgot to say i'm using limestone and gypsum in my bulk recipe. about the box, anything with height 25cm+ is like veeeery big and also very very tall! someone just told me to get one of those big and tall one and use plastic trays, mix spawn and bulk in them and put the trays in the big tub with a lil bit of water at the bottom of the tub.

Don’t worry about measurements so much, just make some coir and use enough to fill the tub to the right depth.
Also make sure you test it for field capacity after you hydrate it.
Literally any tub will work the height isn’t a huge issue. Check out the threads about monos and unmodded tubs.
They’re the same tub and work both ways.
Also casing isn’t really important unless you’re growing penis envy. I’d focus on the basic stuff first.
So anything that can hold 2-4 inches of coir will work.

thank you bro, i'll do my best i'm gonna try multiple methods to see which works best for me. i'd love to use coir but i was always paranoid about getting things and ratios wrong.i'll try and see what happens

Back here to update and ask a few questions I've successfully found a nice tub and spawned nicely.it's colonizing much faster than i expected (which excites me ) now i was thinking of casing and maybe i misunderstood.i looked around and i read people talk about casing colonization and that casing shouldn't be colonized.i thought casing (which in my case is perlite-peatmoss 1:3 pasteurized) is just added on top of substrate and misted enough to get wet, not to water the mycelium below. my next question is, do i need to put the tub in fridge for cold shocking before fruiting? should i use liner to pull the substrate up to harvest using a knife? or just pick them by rotating the stem!? and should i just harvest and then mist and wait for next flush or i should do something else?
thanks for reading my newbish questions and thanks in advance for your reply

I suggest you not try a bunch of different approaches to figure out what works best. There are way too many variables; permutations of what worked and what went wrong. Instead, choose a trusted tek and work your way thru that specific learning curve. Achieve some discipline, expertise and fruit. Then tweak as you want.
From another perspective, while you might learn from continued failure, you can be sure you've wasted time, resources and risk. Risk is a serious consideration....angry ex, landlord, utility worker, firefighter, cops who show up for something else, etc. And don't forget that guy, the friend of your friend, who gets busted and trys to reduce his pain by ratting out anybody he can think of.

Heya I came off dickish, sorry about that. Thought I was responding to a kid who planned to try 5 different approaches "to see what works".
Regarding harvesting fruit...Bod uses water to float the cake in an unmodified tub to the surface of the tub then saws everything off with a bread knife. He has complete canopies all the time, that rascal. Folks with modified tubs tape the holes and then do the Bod. Others, who use liners, remove the cake by grabbing the liner and just lift it out and set it down and saw away. I've never grown a tub that was so flush I couldn't just reach down and carefully cut the base of the fruit as close as possible to the surface. I use an extremely sharp paring knife with a 2" blade and a 3" handle. I have 2 bowls ready, one for fruit that needs to be cleaned up (remove fragments of substrate) and one for clean fruit. Once all fruit is picked I weigh out clean fruit and place in dehydrator plates, then clean up the others and do the same. Lately I don't weigh wet fruit at all because that's an unnecessary step.
Hope that's helpful. Again, regrets for being a dick.
