Cordyceps Gunnii ID please
    #26676185 - 05/17/20 03:44 AM (3 years, 8 months ago)

Found some of these and think they are Cordyceps Gunnii but need an ID to be sure.  Found in a mountainous area in regional Victoria, Australia about 900m above sea level.  Photos of habitat and fungi are attached.  Need a positive ID from a mycologist and any info about how to consume them if you have any.

Also are there any fungi that look similar to this that are poisonous?

Thanks

Definitely looks like Cordyceps gunnii. Do not think there are any poisonous look alikes.

Would love to hunt in Victoria. Awesome find :super:

Is there a specific method for drying them for long term storage or we can still fan dry and then use a desiccant to make them cracker dry?

I've Never Been Able To Get Mushrooms "Cracker Dry" With A Fan & Desiccant. You Can Get Them Pretty Damn Dry, But Likely They Will Still Bend Instead Of Snapping Like A Cracker.

A Dehydrator Is A Mushroom Hunter's/Mycologists Best Friend. Gets Them 100% Cracker Dry.
