Mycelium matting up?

Long time lurker, first time poster here. I have two small tubs of 50/50 grain spawn, CVG sat in a larger tub with some extra cooked coir to help humidity as I didn't have and perlite. They colonised the substrate well but I don't think I gave them enough FAE and now the mycelium seems to be matting over itself. Is there anything that can be done in this situation?

FAE is the only thing to maybe save that overlay problem. Is there holes in that fruiting chamber? It's not enough to just fan it a few times a day. Fanning is only good for surface evaporation not FAE. The coir instead of perlite would work well enough but you need to still make the tub into a sgfc for it to work right.

If you had a proper sgfc and a 6" thick perlite layer it might be possible to remove those from the dishes and fruit them like giant cakes on tinfoil cut the same size and save the grow. You could even dunk for 24hrs then roll them in dry verm just like cakes.

No holes, the tub was being used for general storage so I hadn't modified it. Do you reckon it would be enough to have the lid rotated 45 degrees and fan multiple times times an hour?

The lid upside down slightly shifted to make a tiny gap would be better.
You'll have to make sure you keep the humidity up or it will just dry out and fail that way instead

It should be ok, I had something similar happen my first grow.
It matted up then kinda dried out and died, had a off white/greenish tinge to it and then new myc sprouted from it and pinned.
Don’t give it too much air, like rum said leaving the lid flipped or just sitting on top is a good place to start.

Other than the apparent lack of moisture your tub looks fine. Why do you think it's not okay?

Yep, that's not okay. Likely bacteria. Did you use a spore syringe? I suggest everyone start from agar to avoid problems like this.
