gymnopilus aeruginosus?
    #26672286 - 05/15/20 09:28 AM (3 years, 8 months ago)

Habitat:
Found these on the Sunshine Coast, BC. in a pile of wood chips out front of a newly cleared property

Gills:
Rusty brown

Spore print color:
Rust brown (spores stained hands on picking)

Bruising:
Dark blue/green

I think these are fairly mature based on what I've read. Wondering about potency and looking to confirm the ID. thx.

I can't really see the bruising that's described, perhaps take a close up of it for us to see?

But yes, Gymnopilus is pretty obvious, although not sure which species.

Welcome to the Shroomery.

I think they might be too mature and dried out to show much bruising, but if you do see blue-green areas they are likely to be g. aeruginosus

See Gymnopilus liquiritiae.

I often get tunnel vision and forget there are other Gymnopilus species out there.

It’s closer to G. sapineus based on google image search. Haha.
But the description more closely matches liquiritiae. I think a lot of images on image searches are inaccurate.

I'm not sure if those species are known to grow on mulch, it would be helpful to know what type of tree that mulch came from though
