Took brf cakes after 1st flush n shredded em up n mixed with a manure compost n spread em out in these trays...kinda just to see what they'd do if anything...i can see the myc growing n spreading...but no action yet on pins...is this a wasted effort or will it eventually produce?...grow room temps n lighting 75degrees 12/12 lights

It may do something, but maybe not something good
Really though if you want to do cakes to bulk you should not let them consolidate, and spawn them right away. Your cakes got into fruiting mode and spent energy creating mush and then found themselves violated by the white man and mixed up into something new. So they’re trying to colonize but may not have the energy and speed to beat the other things that want to live.
All you can do is wait and see. I hear a cheese grater is good for cakes because you can get a nice even spawn to mix in. When you have clumps like that it will take longer and the overall mix will be harder to level out. Level is best for bulk.
So is this a tray sitting in a tub full of perlite? It kinda looks like it’s a big cake just sitting on perlite that’s soaking in water. Just a tip if that’s the case, perlite works the best when it’s moist but not waterlogged. If you have too much water you actually loose some of the surface area that the perlite creates by its porous structure

I think it’s just gonna die.
If you mixed the brf pieces in really well it would prob have colonized and made a couple mushrooms.

I did this on my first grow and I gots a few big mushrooms but didn’t get an optimal flush like if you were using fresh cakes from the jar. Your main concern should be watching out for contams and making sure that there is sufficient moisture

Sweet. I’m surprised it’s lasted man considering it was post 1st flush spawn. Cool stough. End yield would be higher just fruited as cakes I think, but maybe a gangsta flush will come. And it’s cool to mess around anyway.

I dont claim to know exactly whats goin on here...im really a pot grower at heart this shroom thing has just been a side project for my own supply of shrooms... I mixed these shredded up cakes with a manure compost i use for top dressing plants...actually prolly coulda not used it at all doesn't seem to be doing much in combination with the shred cakes...the pins are all poppin up from pieces of cake...i have some Amazonian spores and 2grain bags and an axtual bag of bulk substrate dirt lookin stuff on standby i plan on gettin into soon

Going from spores straight to grain is a coin flip as far as contamination. Spore prints and syringes aren’t totally sterile so there will basically always be some other stuff mixed in. Brf cakes seem to handle that really well for some reason. Bacterial syringes that would go gross on grains seem to colonize and fruit on those cakes.
Grains are different though. You really need to get a clean culture going on agar first and then go to grain from that. Or use the clean agar to make another form of inoculant.
If you just want to be able to eat an eighth now and then the pf tek is pretty simple and works well enough. If you want to get serious you have to use agar. Here is great reading. The flow chart helps explain some basic stuff.

Looks overhydrated due to the small size of the boomers. When a substrate is waterlogged, it will produce very few and small fruits in between. Let it dry a bit but keep it lightly moist and it may put out a better second flush.
