My return to cultivation (APE & B+ Grow Log)
    #26672170 - 05/15/20 08:24 AM (4 years, 7 months ago)

Hey guys!
So long story short, I made a journey into psilocybe cultivation about 7 years ago when I did two grows of APE using the original PF tek in an aquarium w/ misting+fanning, and then in my second grow using perlite. After that I tried grabbing onto more than I could handle and made an attempt at spawning Pan. cyan colonized wbs to pasteurized cow poo substrate. Lo and behold, this wound up in contamination. I didn't intend to give up there, I just haven't had the appropriate living circumstances for cultivation since then. Now I do. So with that out of the way, let's begin.

I'm working on a number of experiments right now. I've inoculated via MS six BRF B+ half-pints, and likewise with APE, totalling up to twelve cakes minus one lost to contamination (green mold, probably trich). I ran these in my presto pressure canner a bit too long, as I mixed up the times between BRF vs. grain, and sterilized them for 90 minutes instead of the suggested 45-60 minutes. Hoping that hasn't dried my substrate, but we shall see.

I am also learning how to work with agar. I followed BOD's agar tek, and Frank's ELME+yeast recipe. I didn't do such a good job pouring them, so it only came out to about 13 plates though, which I inoculated using an inoculation loop with APE spore solution. Still waiting for signs of germination.

The cakes I am going to put into a PMP I've put together using a 46 quart tub, 4 air stones, and a nice air pump. Hoping to get some good specimens to clone from that I can use for some bulk grows

Day 4: Just a quick overview.

Day 6: First signs of germination on these B+ jars.

Day 9: The B+ jar that was on the right above is making fast and steady progress.

Day 16: The B+ jars, particularly these two are way ahead of the game...

Day 16: Whereas the APE jars are moving a little more slowly, and one was outrun by contamination (not pictured)

All inoculation is done in my SAB using sterile technique (alcohol wipes on gloved hands, small movements using wrists, plastic arm sleeves, and always flame sterilizing between transfers.

I'll keep this thread updated with my progress. Questions? Advice? Criticism? That's what I'm here for, so don't hesitate.
Happy to be back,

Ace Jensen
