Had a panic attack at the tail end of LSD experience, been having them since. * 1
    #26671867 - 05/15/20 03:08 AM (3 years, 8 months ago)

So I made a post about how I was abusing LSD and mushrooms quite heavily this quarantine. I had a full blown panic attack around 8 hours in after taking LSD, very randomly. Ive been somewhat struggling with them ever since.. its been like 8-10 days now. They’re legitimately scary sometimes. It feels like Im about to have a seizure/pass out, but Ill control it and eventually relax.

I worry that tgis could continue for awhile. I had 3 days where I was pretty mucch fine, but then today I was feeling like I was randomly having one and took phenibut and kratom, and still was feeling a little off a few hours later. Has anyone experienced this? Its not racing thoughts. Its hard to explain but its physical.

What do you think triggers them? You have to try and be aware of your thought process during a panic attack so you can realise what it is that you're panicking about and how irrational your thinking is. Meditation helps a lot

Have you laid off the weed lately?  Or used it excessively?  That can do it.

I think I need to get checked out just to alleviate the thoughts that something is wrong with me, even though I genuinely feel that I am fine. For example I could feel a little spacey, or a weird feeling in my chest/head (that ive had for ten or so years,) and then Ill think that something might be wrong with me and then my arm/hands start feeling weird. Words dont do it justice.

Ive been wanting to start meditating for other reasons. Its really difficult for me to sit peacefully for more than 60 seconds to be honest. My first panic attack was absolutely out of nowhere, I stood up after feeling weird and was convinced I was about to have a seizure or pass out. I think time will heal this, but its hard to go through it.

Weed sometimes gives me racing thoughts, but not panicky feelings.  I would smoke  but I get tested currently. Thats a good point though bud.

stop medicating, all forms for 1 week.
clean up apartment, do some push ups or this excellent routine.

then resume your psychedelic use by titrating up from minimal dose and stay at the dose you like with reasonable frequency.

I struggled with this after a strong trip as well. If you just have faith in yourself and try to work through any problems sober while keeping a healthy lifestyle, I think the panic attacks will start to improve pretty fast. It of course depends on the person, but I've never heard of it lasting forever or even much longer than a month even for crazy doses

I remember reading about a famous director or writer in the 60s who had never done drugs and tried to take acid at a party. He ended up eating like 10 or 12 sugar cubes with like 500-1000 mic each. It was horribly traumatic and he never did drugs again, but the fact that somebody could recover from an experience like that gives me faith that the human mind is quite resilient to psychedelic insanity lol

EDIT: found the director's account. James Toback

I’ve seen you post a lot about tripping a lot recently during quarantine, think some R & R away from psych & cannabis usage is entirely appropriate.  Give your mind and body a break for good period of time so you can be healthy & get back to baseline.

Maybe you had too much too fast.  -  GD

Weed really messes me up with lsd, it takes me to a place that I find uncomfortable and somewhat scary.... Like others on here have said try to have a bit of time away from everything and have a physical reset.... Try researching some spiritual things and you should be able to alleviate your panic attacks and bring your trips back to an enjoyable experience

Sounds to me that the LSD panic attack traumatized you to the extent of giving you flashbacks to it.

And Syd Barrett, the original lead singer of Pink Floyd, once supposedly did a shot glass worth of LSD.  He produced some great albums, but is kind of a mad genius.  Check this story out: http://thebigfootdiaries.blogspot.com/2015/01/the-story-behind-song-have-you-got-it.html

Just read about panic attacks, the symptoms. Dont worry, they will pass. It is good to have something to center yourself around, like music, something simple. "God" loves you.

When did this happen?

Ive had similar feelings. Never had a full-on panic attack thou. Definitely stay away from all drugs for a while while your body resets. Try to live a peaceful, calm life. Should help.

But man, thats scary.

Op that sounds very similar to want I’ve just experienced.
About a week in to the lockdown here in the Uk i decided to chill with a few mushrooms, 3G of pe. Not really anything out of the ordinary. I was really up for it, no anxiety about it at all. Come up was fine listening to music.
That all of a sudden it felt like everything closed in on me, I’m like wtf pulled my headphones off and tried steady myself. Managed to shake that off and grab the headphones and carry on.

Then 20 minutes later it happened again, but this this time with my muscles seizing as well. Again shook it off, but this happened another 5 or 6 times each time getting worse. With the seizing in my whole body including my chest, really felt I could be having a heart attack or a stroke.
I thought about phoning an ambulance but instead phoned a close friend thinking if something bad is happening she can phone it if I need them.
She said she thought it was panic attacks but I wasn’t convinced as I’ve never had one before or got anything to panic about. I didn’t think at all it had anything to do with the trip either, been tripping regularly and heavy for 25 years and always love it.

Well after the forth or fifth time of laying in my bed seizing up I still hadn’t died so thought I’m probably not going to and started drinking beer hoping it will calm it down, witch it did very nicely. Finished the crate, thought well that’s the end of that and went to bed.

But for the following week it kept happening, not as intense as when I was tripping but still pretty bad. Real tightness in the chest, headaches and pains and numb feelings in my arms. Still not knowing what the hell was going on I ended up phoning the medical helpline and spoke to a doctor.
His verdict was that they are panic attacks, something I didn’t think it was because it was all physical but it seems my friend was right.

Anyway they have gradually got better, now about 5 weeks later they’ve almost gone completely. I did find a clonazepam very effective if I had a bad one, literally sorted it in 20-30 minutes and would keep it away for a full day at least.
I don’t know what caused it but i know I don’t want that in my life again for sure.

This post about what a panic attack is and how to deal with them I found helpful.

Thanks guys I appreciate all the love. That's really nice. You guys have been the shit since I started growing, its gone the full circle!! Ive since stopped taking anything besides kratom, as it helps me relax and honestly Ive been taking it for awhile and its just what it is right now.

Getting outside, away from people has been the best therapy right now. This panic attack happened about 9 days or so ago. I dosed around midnight (my sleep schedule was all out of whack from psychedelics already,) and the attack happened around 8AM. I was laying in bed just taking deep breaths because my lungs felt really nice doing it, out of nowhere (maby I got light headed,) I jumped out of bed knowing something was wrong with me, grabbed the phone debating on calling an ambulance, but there was no way I could do that.

To the other guy who had his panic attack. Yes, numbness in the arms, my cheeks feel weird, heart is racing, lightheaded, but my mind is quite calm. It hasn't been that bad since the first one, but I cant shake this feeling. It starts slow, and then it can build and build if I let it. Sometimes Im fighting it, trying to just breathe it out, but its tough. Last night it lasted for a few hours. Send me a message if youd like. Im glad to hear you are feeling better. These symptoms make me feel like im having strokes, but I would know by now.

Lastly, our minds are so powerful. We can do anything, positive or negative. Ive gained some wonderful insight, even if I pushed it too far for too long. I learned a lot during this quarantine, stuff that's hard to put into words. Its just a new intuition. All good stuff guys, thank you.

It’s common if using psychedelics too much/too often that you can have a bad experience on them and that it can linger afterwards. It will pass, it’s a bit like a shock and you’re currently recovering from it.

It will get better, it just takes time and the usual things that are considered good for you are helpful like outdoor activity, eating healthy and adequate rest.

I think that meditation or at least something along the lines of consciously ‘resting in being’ can help a lot as fear is mental, where you become a victim of your own thoughts. Instead of going this way, you can stay aware and not go with the pull of the mind, not out of fear but because you don’t have to. I truly believe you can use this as an opportunity to learn and actually be better off for it.

All the best

They work on association. I once had one when I was hungover and sank a bong. Felt as if I was slipping into the abyss and couldn't hold on to the walls/floors! The only thing (instinctive) that mildly helped was a very cold shower(s)!

I was also still recovering from years of using psychedelics and some terrorizing psychotic (albeit drug induced) experiences at that time, but after that whenever I was hung over, I would get incredibly anxious and uncomfortable(though I never again had full panic attacks).

Even to this day I moderate my drinking not wanting to deal with the hangovers so that's good.

The way I really got a handle on the anxiety was (when hung over it's nothing like it once was), by basically applying the same principles of controlling a bad trip- surrender, let go, and (as Assante pointed out) observe.

I think at root panic attacks are a person's subconscious fears of his own mortality rising to the surface. In day to day existence we repress death to such an extent that I doubt we truly believe it exists.

If I smoke cannabis though these days (especially if I overshoot) my old friend death comes rushing to the surface, and just as with any psychedelic I will be forced to lay down and surrender for a while.

Maybe a controversial opinion OP but at least in my own experience, LSD/HBWR/mescaline psychologically speaking are far more detrimental to a persons mental health than things like Ayahuasca or mushrooms simply because of the prolonged duration of the experiences. Some crazy shit can start to happen in the comedown stages if a person is sleep deprived.

I had a minor psychotic experience at the tail end of a HBWR trip once (where I felt as if I was losing control over my own impulses) and I really think the reason was because I was exhausted and had been frying all night. I also can barely tolerate LSD/mescaline/HBWR comedowns. So much physical restlessness/sleeplessness.

My advice therefore is if you do use things like LSD, dose as early in the day as possible.

Cannabis with any psychedelic is also a big no no for me too, though that's just me.

Lastly (and I really can't stress this enough) if you have had a traumatizing experience with psychedelic's give your mind enough time to recover before jumping back in. It was a mistake I made over and over again, and becomes increasingly dangerous the more a person pushes it.

Give it a year at least.
