Ive been noticing some of my jars have been getting bacterial. Might be because of them getting stopped up or something also ive been putting like 2-3 layers on em. Do you think thats choking them or is it good measure?

That should be fine I think people use two layers for the most part.

Okay so here's the thing. You gotta know when to use each kind of tool.
For micropore tape since its rate of FAE is low I use it on colonizing jars, covering the holes on tubs during colonization, and I also use micropore to seal up my plastic agar dishes/slants.
For Polyfil I use it for the holes in my tubs and modified lids for LC.
I also use it when I PC my Pyrex 500ml Agar bottles, but its covered in tinfoil as well.

Never had I an issue with micropore tape allowing contams inside, and as long as you make sure you're not tearing it while placing it - it'll work just fine for jars and other small holes you can't fit polyfil into.
I NEVER go past just one layer of Micropore tape because that's all it takes is just ONE layer. Micropore tape is already rated in microns....

Yes. A single hole with poly makes the mushroom colonize much faster than three holes with micropore.

Almost all the MS to grain jars I didn’t have to throw away were with poly. Only a few micropore survived the shaking but they are slow like hell. I’m replacing the lids right now.

one layer of micropore will prevent this. I have it on all my jars, jars take about 12 days to finish colonizing.

No it was like 6 different cultures and I’d literally never seen mold in a jar before then.

Plus it was always on the top of the grain.

Yeah that is lid failure! No way a proper SFD would do that. Must have been the other kind I've seen around

You use micropore on your plates? Like disposable pitres? That sounds like a pain to work with man.
I use Parafilm (I know it's pricey but I'm only on my second roll in several years) or cling wrap, a 1" section cut off the end of a roll, much nicer to use!

I put two layers on before they go in the PC, and one layer when they come out:shrug: it's probably not necessary to use that much, but it has always worked for me, so I see no reason to fuck with it.

Also, the tape would not be the reason your jars are bacterial.

Been doing the exact same thing two before they go in and another when they come out.

Yeah mushpunx, Its not a hassle at all, in fact it has been a very cheap alternative to parafilm which I cannot get at the moment.
There are downfalls, sometimes you get sticky lids, however I have had no contamination from using it.

Everything pictured here is sealed with micropore tape, doesn't do a bad job at all.

I've never seen them but you can get a set of ten SFD's for that price, you could cut circles (I say keep them whole though.).
