Nothing wrong with polyfill. Never failed me

I actually never tried micropore tape

I've been a poly-filler since I started. Poly's my girl. She's never let me down

If you like polyfill, check out SFD (Synthetic Filter Discs). They are da bomb! :awesomenod:

Since clean grain spawn is everything in this game, definitely want the best lids possible.

Which in my opinion, are the autoclavable plastic lids with a GE hole, and either an SFD popped up underneath or polyfill.

They are one piece lids which make it easier to work smoothly.
I prefer the SFDs , but polyfill works great.
I've used micropore on Pasty Plates and that is fine, but it can tear and I don't trust that on lids.

Here is how I do mine with SFDs (there are 3 holes in this lid because it's for a gallon spawn jar. Drilling can crack lids, so I just heat up the back of a drill bit with a torch and melt perfect hole punches).

The first jar I ever lost was when I ran out of tyvek and used mp tape.

I bought sfd specifically sold for mush cult and they were garbage. 95% failure rate.
Idk why.

My favorite is the paper thin filter sticker things.

Poly has never failed me but I just don't like working with it - tubs or lids its just annoying. All my lids have quarter sized SFD with RTV and work beautifully! Plus I can PC them repeatedly and I've never had a jar go green.

I am unfamiliar with those, what are they?

Where did you get your SFDs from? That's nuts, I have seen some filters passed off as SFDs that aren't anything like a proper filter disc though, maybe they were those!

Are you sure it was lid failure? The only times I've ever been certain I had lid failure, green mold showed up at the top of the grains.

The sticker things?? I’m not sure somebody gave me some cult stuff cuz they were taking a break and one of the things was a pre made lid he had bought. It had a ship and a ge hole with a filter over it that looks kinda like the sticky part of a band aid.

I’ll find the rest  of the filters and post them.

They look the same as everybody else’s from what I can tell. I’d done 60+ jars and never had mold in one until I switched to these SFDs. It was crazy.

I did one batch where I had rtvd the cut out circles on and figured maybe I didn’t seal them right or something so I ran a second batch with entire disk on over the lid. Still all went bad. That was like 6 weeks ago and I’m paying for it now with no grows going on lol.

The worst part is it takes so long for the mold to show. If it went bad right away it wouldn’t be so rough but losing ten jars 7-10 days in sucks so bad.

These synthetic disc filters are the absolute best (from my experience anyway, could have been a good brand.. who knows)and you could even use the same lids you have now and convert

The discs are much more breathable than both options and cleaner as well. And you don’t have to worry about anything sticking or polyfill falling out. If they just weren’t so expensive. But they are reuseable as well. I just give them a very hot water bath and set them out to dry and there good to go.

Man and you are sure it wasn't your agar culture? It's a rare thing IME for mold to show in jars, typically comes before the first flush. Still it's much better to catch it in the jars.

Im using 3M micropore tape on all my jars right now in a tent. Are all my jars fucked then? Also I need some of the synthetic filter disk.

I have no contam issues with micropore tape, but you may be onto something with the colonization speeds. Gives me something to tinker with I suppose.

No it was like 6 different cultures and I’d literally never seen mold in a jar before then.

Plus it was always on the top of the grain.
