YouTube TV * 2

I know a lot of y'all have cut the cord completely when it comes to live TV, but for those who still do live TV in addition to all your other streaming services (legal or illegal), what do you all use now?

I finally severed myself from Directv after many, MANY years. Switched to YouTube TV. And it's legit. Waaaayyyyy cheaper (for now anyway) and I basically have access to everything I had on Directv (not everything but most) for a fraction of the price. And no contract -- I can cancel at anytime.

The HD quality is just as good, and you get unlimited DVR and a lot of shit on demand.

Anyone else got YouTube TV? If not what do y'all have?

So YouTube TV has cable shows?

I currently have Xfinity. Loving it. They even dropped the price for me recent, so that was cool.

Does YouTube TV have cable channels on it? Can you watch live sports? Can you DVR shows?

I cut the cord a long time ago, but I do miss some things from cable, like live sports and reality TV shows like Survivor and those Challenge shows from MTV.

Yes on all counts. It even has your local channels.

It's like $54 a month. No contract.

I find it very ironic that YouTube is doing this. I mean, didnt YouTube start out as an alternative to cable TV?

Yep I think so but this is the route so many platforms are doing now. I believe Hulu (to name one) also offers a live tv deal.

You can also do 6 different accounts with it too, so you divide it up with friends or family. And you can even watch live TV on your phone with it.

Here's a quick walkthrough

Free trial subscription too so one can test the waters first and see how it works

I was doing Hulu Live until recently.  Same price basically.  It was fine.  No complaints.  Just as good as Comcast.  But I just don't feel like paying that much, so I canceled.

I just like it because it basically cut my directv bill in half. Directv scams you because on the surface the monthly bill looks comparable for the first year, but in the fine print like after the first 12 months it goes up substantially. And when I say substantial I mean from like $50-ish a month to $80 to $100 a month. They lock you into a contract of 2 yrs on top of that.

And no more satellite dish where they have to come run wires through my place. It's just pay and I have it. With the ability to cancel at anytime.

Once upon a time Directv was the future but now I think it's possible they go the way of Blockbuster -- obsolete and extinct.

I was actually soured a bit on Hulu.  When I started, it was $45, then one month later, it went up to $55.  It wasn't the sneaky trick that you're describing or anything.  They just universally raised their price by that 18%.  I originally went to Hulu because I was sick of calling the cable company every year and re-negotiating.

What's funny is that you used to be able to call the cable company every year and threaten to leave and they'd give you the cheap price again.  Lately I would threaten to leave Comcast and they'd be like "Oh okay, cool.  See ya."  I later found out that they owned Hulu.  So they must know they're going to get our money one way or another.  But I'm not complaining about Hulu.  It was a good experience.  I just don't want to pay it.

I'm sure YouTube will do the same. Just a matter of time. Netflix has gradually gone up too I believe.

That's pretty cool, but is $54 a good deal? My local internet providers are always spamming me promotions about paying $30 for cable TV (at least for the first year).

I refuse to support any "Youtube premium" BS for a number of reasons.

Youtube started as a platform for small channels/individuals to share content, but over time it has become increasingly bought out to the point where they only care about the big channels making the most money.

Did you know you can pay money on youtube to advertise any video? The more you pay the more people youtube will promote the video to. That's how you get crap like Prager U commercials after every video.

For years people have been sharing music and videos on youtube, but it's getting harder and harder as they get stricter with copyright and cater more and more to big record labels/companies. That is why they want all this "premium" BS, so people stop sharing quality content for free. If this continues youtube will end up even worse than cable, it's already ad riddled cancer without an adblocker. Have fun using youtube mobile or apps, the amount of ads is insane and they allow crap like Prager U to be shoved down peoples throats.

I love youtube as a platform but will never give them any of my money. They allow straight up sexual predators (Onision and others) to run rampant and maintain big channels while taking down small channels over the stupidest reasons. Some of these predators have been notorious for years yet youtube continues to allow them because they are profitable. Meanwhile all sorts of quality channels get shut down over copyright or other nonsense, don't get me wrong copyright is reasonable to an extent but youtube allows their system to be abused horrendously to the advantage of big channels/companies.

Just use popcorn time or various torrent streaming sites. Hell for the price of a 50$~ monthly subscription you could buy a terabyte hard drive every month and fill them up with all the movies/TV you could ever need. And at least then you have actual copies you can come back to, look at all the great stuff that gets taken down from streaming sites over time. Or is never added in the first place.

--------------------
Don't worry about me, I've got all that I need. And I'm singing my song to the sky

You know how it feels, With the breeze of the sun in your eyes. Not minding that time's passing by

I've got all and more, My smile, just as before. Is all that I carry with me

I talk to myself, I need nobody else. I'm lost and I'm mine, yes I'm free
