I remember when I was like 12 I would spend like a hour in the blockbuster just to pick out 1 movie

I like Vietnamese places because you dont have to talk to anyone. Just write down a letter and a number on a piece of paper. Not that i dislike people. I think it's cool that the only two words i had to say was thank you.
It's chill.
I used to go alone all of the time. It was what i looked forward to. For years.
No people just Vietnamese food.

I Dutch restaurants what often happens is you get seated, everybody gets a complimentary beverage and a menu, people are given time to decide, waiter is chimed in, and from there you go.
If even in a european restaurant, if its like this you came to the wrong place:

Sounds similar to American resturants. Is there free bread and/or chips too and do they ask "Do you need more time?".

They dont tend to do the free bread trick (free bread = you can serve smaller portions because appetite is satiated) but instead the free drink trick (wets you appetite prior to ordering, you'll tend to order more)

...are very thorough, want to make a good decision, and should never be chided or criticized for doing it.
I was in restaurants/bars for 35 years and I will read an entire menu most of the time. I've been called picky, I say selective. I will also special order the fuck out of an item because I know what the waitstaff and kitchen can do. Helpful hint: order every single extra, side, or change when ordering it's much appreciated rather than saying something like "oh, I forgot, can I get an extra side of butter with this"? after they brought the fucking food out. Order ANY AND ALL extra shit initially with the order(s).

Wow and yes, order what you want to the Nth degree and don't play games if you didn't get what you wanted because you failed to express that!

Niffla said: God I miss that guy. There's been a bunch of shows that have tried to emulate his formula, but all of them just feel like weak copies (Somebody Feed Phil and Ugly Delicious on Netflix; the one with Gordon Ramsay).
And while Anthony explored politics, race and culture, he did it because of the places he went to -- not because of the food. It was relevant in that case. David Chang on Ugly Delicious is insufferable and wants to be this super woke and new Bourdain. Just focus on the food, man. Instead he/they turned an hour long episode about frigging steaks into a platform for toxic masculinity, the environment, and how rich white Republicans go to Capital Grille so don't go there
If I wanted politics I'll go to MSNBC or Fox. Ugh. Everything is so political and woke these days. It's a shame because when Ugly Delicious does actually focus on the food, it's pretty good.
That said I did enjoy Chef's Table (again on Netflix). Good show for foodies. Each episode profiles and explores an individual chef -- the great and acclaimed chefs of today.
I'm not big on food shows, but I really liked street food asia and jiro dreams of sushi. I haven't seen bourdain's shows yet because they're not on netflix, but I'll try to get it elsewhere and give it a watch. I loved his audiobook (he reads it himself!) and the interviews he's done on Joe Rogan's and Tim Ferris's shows. I'll give Chef's table a look!
