Hi I've finally decided to build a laminar flow hood and was hoping for a little help in picking the pieces. The first thing I'm going to pick is a Hepa filter.
This is the only place I have found close to me that seem to have what I need. https://www.venfilter.com/product/laminarven-plus-90110-mm
I plan to use the one of these filters with dimensions of 610x610x?.

There are some of the specs:

Flow rate and sizes:

And thickness:

This is my first time choosing this and I just don't want to mess up or spend too much.
What would you choose to get started?
Thanks

Here is the design I plan to make. I will make a glove box to start, and make it adjustable to convert to a flow hood when I know what filters I need to buy.

Please let me know if this seems ok to get started on.
Thanks

magicbud my amigo I know crap about that filter but it looks legit.
I can agree with sidewalls on the box but I dont know about reducing the size as it comes towards you that may not be optimal design.
alot of the ones I see is just a air box with no walls/compartment in front of it. I guess there is an acceptable amount of workspace within the area of the flow maybe out to 12" or I dont know how far it may depend on how strong the air current is.
I don't have one yet myself I am currently engineering one mentally and will execute upon it soon.

Hey Pinkstormtrooper. Thanks for the reply I will contact the company with the design I plan to make and ask which of their filters will be best.
I got the idea of reducing the size closer to the exit from "Growing Gourmet and Medicinal Mushrooms by Paul Stamets". The reduction in inches is from 24" (size of the filter) down to 12" at the "clean air out" point.
Here's the page from the book.

I would not cross between two projects.
I would build a cheap SAB while I wait for the hepa and then build a FH

Thanks Robert Bobsky,
Those are some good links there that I hadn't seen. I hadn't even heard of a Still Air Box (SAB). Hard to believe that it works better than a glove box, but most people in the know seem to think it does. The flow hood design is exactly what I was looking for.

Does this seem good to use? The price with delivery seems very reasonable.

Or are there any others on this page you think would be better?
Thanks

That looks like a nice bench. If I could get one for 600 I would definitely buy it. My DIY hood cost me 2k for the filter and blower plus I have to build it.

I wouldn't build your hood like this. That will make the work that we do a real pain, it will take the convience right out of a FH. We work as close to the filter as possible.
You can add side walls if you want, if your flow hood is working correctly and you are using it correctly you won't need them though.

Those are the two hoods I have built above. The smaller is my newer hood, I built small so I can move it around. See how I have my plates right up close to the filter where the flow is strongest. It is also where you are least likely to move something unsterile (like a gloved hand) between the filter and your open media, which will blow contaminants into your work. In your design it would be very difficult to do grain to grain transfers or work with spawn bags.

If you use Stro's design I recommend using a more powerful blower than the 1tdt2. The blower will push 360CFM @ .8sp which will work fine but adding a prefilter with .2sp drops the flow down to 240CFM or lower which isn't enough to meet the 300CFM.
