Patriot Act expanded, law enforcement no longer needs a warrant to access your web browsing history * 3

The US Senate has voted to give law enforcement agencies access to web browsing data without a warrant, dramatically expanding the government’s surveillance powers in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The power grab was led by Senate majority leader Mitch McConnell as part of a reauthorization of the Patriot Act, which gives federal agencies broad domestic surveillance powers.

May be wise to get a foreign no-log VPN if you post anything 'sensitive' on here or similar forums.

I dont like how the shroomery blocks you from signing up with TOR

But as long as the government getting access to your browsing history saves 1 person from Corona Virus it is worth it and on a plus side if you are not a criminal you have nothing to fear.

I'm guessing it's either to limit spam or cut down on ban evaders.

I know many forums block all tor exit nodes.

TOR is kind of slow too, and at this point I would guess the majority of nodes/relays are federally operated and the network is somewhat compromised.

Get a good VPN?  What are you doing on this site without one to begin with.  Use duckduckgo or similar search.  There are browsers that take privacy seriously too, like opera.

None of that stuff will stop the government if they really want you bad enough.

This site is relatively low on the gobments list.

The dreaded pirate roberts got busted because of this site but only because he registered on here with his real name in his email he used and posted an advertisement to the silk road.

This site still exists after it had the FBI all over it and people were doing fuckloads of illegal trades in the DM's without issues.

VPN's still track your data and if the government really cared, they would just subpoena them for info on you. They'll sell you out before they put their business at risk.

If you're on the internet, you can be found.

There have been threads about it in the past, most people responding didn't use a VPN.

A lot of free and US-based VPN's keep logs and/or might even be direct honeypots. Using a foreign one will almost certainly get you on a list now that connection logs will be made readily available to the feds, but it's still likely better than the alternative.

Good VPN don't keep logs, yes I'm sure the NSA can hack them, but every added step increases their cost and thus increases the the reward needed to justify the work.

You're free to work to survive during a pandemic.
You're free to hand over your browser history with no warrant.
You're free of universal healthcare and debt free education.
You're free to go bankrupt while paying for corporate socialism.

Land of the free.

They were already accessing your info before this, now they can just target potentially  “dangerous” individuals like political activists or protesters and plant “evidence” without a warrant and arrest you for it lol. The bill was one vote from actually protecting our freedoms, conveniently Bernie was not present to vote on this. Not saying it’s all his fault because if he showed up they’d just have another dem vote the other way. That’s how this political game works and Bernie has just become another pawn for the establishment.

Obama already signed off on indefinite detention, which allows you to be put in jail forever without needing to be convicted. I used to be a die hard dem but both parties are playing the same game, the dems just have to make it seem like they’re doing right by the working class.

Its OK that we gave up more liberty because it's for our security. Its for our own safety. There is a viral outbreak and it must be stopped at all costs.

Corona VIRUS computer VIRUS, it’s all for the safety of the people and totally not pushing us towards a two class society like Brazil where an overwhelming majority of live near the poverty line. I remember when the EARN IT act was introduced a couple weeks ago, they wanted to compromise end to end encryption by introducing a back foot that law enforcement would be able to access if desired. They completely ignored the fact that backdoors would also allow any asshat with a capable computer to steal your information. This is very bad if you prefer your digital conversations to remain inaccessible to the public or enjoy being able to log into your bank account online. Sucks that we’re moving towards an authoritarian government that literally nobody but the governing powers and wealthy want.
