Absolutely hilarious to me that there are distinct communist and nazi anime subcultures. Almost like the disaffected American millennial knows the neoliberal status quo is a rigged game and opts for either the far left or the far right. Hmm but which of those has billions of dollars behind it and is regularly normalized by US media..

The alt-right anime nazi subculture weirds me out am not clear on why the emphasis toward a pretty expressly "foreign" art style nor why cis-het guys use anime girls as avatars
"at least" with the communism anime side of things it is more limited to transwomen who view the anime characters as collective "goals" or a character of identification, so it "makes sense"
anime subculture more broadly is not left nor right obviously and brown-haired cat girl in the image is a canonically...transvestite? character it gets a little shifty in terms of trans representation Japanese culture traditionally has a sort of linguistic recognition of a "third" non-binary gender
Anime-adjacent, the game series Dark Souls has a notorious "trans" character (my apologies for a gaming diversion; but am aware Enlil has at least put in pretty thorough gameplay hours if not lore digging, so it helps contextualize this conversation for another outside reader)
Gwyndolin, in the original Japanese text, is a non-binary deity figure that the player character can engage in service to, or kill to become more powerful the in-game text refers to them with roughly the "equivalent" of they/them pronouns and sort of obscures gender with bigender iconographic references in the English release, in-game text refers to them as being born a boy and raised as a girl because of his (it uses he/him pronouns for the character in English) affinity for Moon Magic
the "problem" this presents for me in Dark Souls is a manifestation of community sentiment that the character is a trans girl and, therefore, a dangerous "trap" that will trick men into falling for him then will surprise them with a penis despite the character model's lower torso being replaced by animated snakes in Dark Souls 1 and a writhing blob of a character that is eating them legs first in Dark Souls 3
so there is an artistic 'respect' being paid to non-binary identity in the original work that translates into an artistic portrayal of trans identity that is not necessarily supportive in the English work and ultimately culminates in a disrespectful community attitude
this sort of push and pull shows up with regards to a number of other trans characters that show up in anime part of the "problem" here is that Japanese culture is quite comfortable with portrayals of cross-dressing even more than genderbending and characters in anime receive a sort of coded ambiguity that results in less trans-friendly members of the anime community either characterizing them as "traps" or as not being trans at all
(noteworthy above, Ferris is one of the two characters that appeared in the Das Kapital meme, and one of the most commonly utilized characters of iconography in the trans community)
the problems of the terminology of "trap" are twofold in the eyes of the trans community
firstly, the word and language surrounding the idea makes the implication that trans identity is about deceiving men for sexual gain this has inherent homophobia and transphobia contained within it and further compounds the idea of women being present only for men's sexual gratification as it wrongly presumes that trans identity is inherently sexual in the "trap" view a trans woman's very existence as a trans woman is portrayed as a deception against heterosexual men; rather than an independent personhood autonomous from sexual activity
secondly, and building on that, trans people will frequently be faced with cis-het anime fans labelling underage characters as "traps" which promotes a hideous view of sexualization of child characters but sort of tries to then pawn off responsibility for such to the trans community as tho a child character being trans has sexualized them by the artist's decision and not the viewer representation
moving back away from the issues of contention over trans identity within the anime community those who respect, or more particularly live under, trans identity and are exposed to Marxist ideas often (at least in the US, I guess?) get to associating the numerous costs of transitioning as capitalistic barriers to individual expression and there is a sort of automatic response to want to tear down the system and replace it with one that has public healthcare available and thus medical protections available for trans people available at all levels and there is a sort of projection of identity into 'hero figures' with a sort of culturally limited scope as to which are "appropriate" for trans people with anime having many of the fantastical characters to relate to as having to go and fight the system
would be genuinely interested in what sort of thoughts influence people on the right to view anime characters as ideal for avatar identification tho suspect an argument about how avatars do not have to be representative and just liking the art or character or something
my own Discord and Youtube avatar is of an animeish design
also use this image as my avatar on the official Fallout forums, which will become relevant again momentarily
while my choice of image itself plays into all the negative stereotypes of anime trapism in actually being an image made with pornographic viewing intent NSFW full image for me, it is actually a pretty ideal artistic capturing of my own psychological distress associated with gender dysphoria alongside a portrayal of what would likely cause me personal issues of distress in a post-apocalyptic Fallout-style wasteland
also, full disclaimer, have since found out from Imgur comment section that apparently the artist behind my avatar also sells creepy loli art so have personal issues with my "promotion" of any of his other work and feel it is worth noting that while I like and strongly relate to this particular bit of artwork; it seems the artist is a shit bird who it is my opinion should not be financially supported in what are apparently his present pursuits
while creepy loli art may not be illegal, it is my view that such individuals and the fans who consume the work are promoting the normalization of a world of child abuse

I mean, almost all right wing culture is appropriated from the people they hate.
Pepe the frog is made by a liberal guy. “Based” invented by a rapper.
They can’t think up anything for themselves.

Have you considered that Jeff Bezos just works 130,000,000,000 times harder than you?
