Question re Aliens Holy Grail No Pour Tek

I just had my first attempt at Agar. Poured 8 Pasty Plates and they've all developed contams so I'm now back to the drawing board, reading up etc. I was reading through Aliens Holy Grail No Pour TEK and have a question. Why the separate container over the top of the plates when PC-ing? Can't you just stack the plates directly into the PC? What function does it serve?

The original thread has loads of posts that discuss why the extra container is used. I'd suggest you read the whole thread.
Short answer is it makes condensation less of a problem.
I've ran 24 holy grail plates stacked in my pc without an extra container (just because I can't find one, and my pc is smaller than what's in the tek), and I got 4 plates that was ready to go straight after cooling down. All the other ones had condensation. Leaving the lid half open in a box on a draft free shelf has worked for me thus far, condensation evaporates over time.

Thanks PM. I was a bit overwhelmed by the 20+ pages on the thread so was a bit lazy. Much appreciated

No worries. In general it's encouraged to read up on this forum instead of asking questions that have already been answered. But I've lurked here for a long time without posting a lot, so I don't mind helping people out and also getting my post count up!
Good luck with the HG plates, I love them thus far!

I dont separate them but I have some containers that stack pretty well. I get condensation in my cups and I dont care. It helps them last a long time and I store them agar up.
The thing about pcing plates (especially DIY ones) is they are light with a high center of gravity, and can tip over easily. Once I have everything stacked I'll usually put a plate or something on top to prevent them from jiggling and falling over. I dont like to let them cool completely as I take them out hot and let the agar cool on a level surface. 10 to 15 minutes out of the pc, I'll usually flip them over and put them in a box.
Also, look into some bulk containers. I quickely figured out that 8 plates is not enough. Every time I transfer I make 3-6 plates from each plate. From those I'll only transfer 1 or 2 of the best plates and repeat until ready to go to grain. I just dont have room for thousands of plates on shelves, so anything contaminated, slow, wierd, gets tossed.
Hope that helps.
