That looks like legit non-PC Pachanoi.  It looks nice.  But there is rot at those cut ends.  Clean up that rot and those cuttings are beauties.

What does non pc mean??

I used to love eating San Pedro then recently after not doing it for 10 years went and bought one from a nursery on a whim.

I felt something but not a full experience, looked it up and found a lot of stuff about nurseries catching on and breeding low mescaline cacti.

PC means Predominant Cultivar.  It refers to the most common clone of Pachanoi sold in the USA.  Until recently it was the only Pachanoi that many people could find and buy.  It is widespread in the nursery trade in areas of the country where cacti are grown as landscape plants.

PC is active, but is usually weaker than most other Pachanois. However people who have used cuttings from really big, old PC plants report that the strength is better.  However from smaller, younger PC plants the experience is usually disappointing.  That is why most collectors prefer non-PC Pachanois (basically, any other Pachanoi than the PC).

How do you tell them apart??

I may have been eating those this whole time. I used to buy 2-2.5 foot tall ones that were 6-7 inches thick and take the whole thing. It was always great and occasionally super strong but cactus has always been super mellow and gentle so I never worried about overdoing it.

Anyway my point was I remembered reading that people would eat a foot long cutting or at most the size of your forearm and I was at minimum doubling that.

This is probably the best resource for identifying PC.  The author refers to PC as "Pachanot".

That much cactus should have given you an extremely strong trip with many visuals.  It was probably PC and/or an issue with the way you prepared the tea.

I just blended it up then boiled it on low for 6-8 hours sometimes with lemon juice added. Then strained and squeezed the pulp and put the liquid back on low heat until it reduced to a few cups.

It was extremely powerful most times. Once I was sitting outside at dusk and if I kept my head straight colors and patterns would appear and start swirling until eventually it was like being inside a psychedelic tornado. Or a friend exhaling a cloud of smoke would turn into a gargoyle thing that flew away. Some of the best visuals ever.

I’m gonna have to become an expert at identifying pc thanks for the link.

I've heard that heat degrades mescaline quite a bit, I'm gonna try and just drink my pach raw when it's time and see how it goes. A friend basically got no activity from a big cutting he took and I suspect it was because it was boiled for a long time.

Brewing it is how it’s always been done.

You just keep the mix barely boiling for the first few hours then keep it right below boiling for the rest until it’s reduced.

If you kept it at a hard boil the whole time I could see it hurting it, but the method I used is extremely effective.

I also cut the core out because supposedly it’s what makes you nauseous. Idk but I drank a lot of cactus and never got sick.
