Is my Straw Log contaminated? If so, can I just cut it out?

Hey, folks.
My first post here, though been lurking for a bit. I am totally new to mycology, and have a straw log fruiting. When I first started the log, I really had no idea what I was doing, didn't have a proper chamber at the moment, so I moved the bag quite a bit. After moving it so much, I saw some dark spots that were either bruising or contamination, so to be on the safe side, I dug a knife in with abandon (as this was really just an experiment for me, so I wasn't too invested) and poked around a bit, but I didn't see anything going deeper in the log.
That was about a week, week and a half ago. I finally got it moved into a proper container. Now the spot looks like this.
So, is this just major bruising from me treating it like crap? Or is this contamination? If it is the latter, can I just cut it out, or will that mess with my pins?
Thanks so much!

That’s trich.
You could maybe cut a bunch of the log off but even that might not save it.
I just noticed the pins, they’ll mature fine but won’t flush again. That green spreads super fast.

Aww that sucks, those pins are pretty. That trich is going to be sporulating the whole time though, maybe put it outside if you can?

Hey firefly. Like A to the K said, that be trich. It’s an insidious and common contaminant to our kind, though it’s helpful as a parasitic killer to things that hurt crops. Cutting it out usually won’t work as it’s mycelium is already entwined with your cubensis myc. Some people cover the infected area with salt to slow spread or keep the spores down maybe while their current flush finishes up but that’s about all you can do.
Straw is a tricky substrate for new growers. Was this pre made stuff?
Here is a link with all the good current info for the best chance of doing some good grows. Welcome.

There's plenty of trich spores everywhere around you to contam your stuff. The trick is to not let them into your sterilised grain.

Thanks, everyone. This wasn't premade; I used grain spawn I made from a spore syringe. I think I know where I went wrong, though.
QUESTION: Will the mushrooms still be edible?

So, the trich won't affect any of the growing fruits at all as far as being edible?
Is there anything at all that would make the mushrooms unsafe to eat, I suppose that is my question?
Thank you!

I wouldn't eat them if there's mold growing over the mushrooms themselves. But that's unlikely.
