Substitute for tyvek?
    #26667079 - 05/12/20 05:06 PM (4 years, 8 months ago)

Hello all. I'm getting a new batch of jars for wbs set up but can't find tyvek anywhere and would prefer to not buy shit online. The closest thing I found was "medium filtration" shop vac filters. They say "dry only" but they feel synthetic and don't rip easily. Will these hold up in a pressure cooker over time?

You can also use poly-fil...its the stuff used for arts & crafts, pillows, etc and is available at most craft/big box stores. There are some pretty detailed treads out there if you want to look it up.  Basically use one hole (1/4 inch) in the jar lid and stuff enough poly-fil for a tight fit.  Cover with aluminum foil, sterilize and you are good to go.  Not sure about the alternative you mention above - haven't heard of that being used before.

Thanks for the recommendation! I'll go with that in a pinch but I've always liked working with equipment built for repeat uses with minimal parts.

That's illegal! But yeah.. post office ftw.

Poly is the cheapest option. Just tear open and old throw pillows, there be poly in them.

That was always my go to but I'm in a very rural area where the nearest open post office is quite a ways away. Thanks covid. Not a noob just needing to get creative with tried and true details unfortunently.

Micropore is a good option. Layer if needed. Also poly-filter lids are the best.

Polyfill is great just a pain to work with.
