Smell change on fully colonized jar?!

So, I had a couple jars that I saved from last G2G run to use for more expansion. Gave them all a smell test and one smelled sweet AF, so I set it aside. It's fully colonized, so I figured I can just spawn it to a shoebox alone and at least get some fruits for my trouble.
Anyway, today I was planning on doing some expanding, and I gave the same jar a smell test. It smelled like a regular jar... Did a double take, yup smells like straight mushroom. There are still physical sign of a bacteria contam tho (water pooling between the grains and glass), but the sweet smell is gone.
Anybody have experience with this? I'm still just saving it until one of my shoeboxes open up, but I think it's weird

I've personally never smelled anything other than 'stale air inside a wet cellar' anytime I go to open my fully colonized rye jars. Then the second I break up the grain the whole place smells like fresh mushrooms. But honestly I've never smelled anything mushroomy from opening a fully colonized jar without first having broken up the grain. Maybe it's just me but thought I should let you know

This is my experience for the most part. My jars if clean usually just smell like grains, but in this case, I first got a very sweet smell and now I'm getting more of a mushroom smell. Just gave it another whiff and it smells like grains. Might give it a shake and see what it smells like, and then if it recolonized guess we'll be in business

Personally I believe most of not all of our grows are dirty to some degree, those that go for 5 flushes before turning green might just be infected in a well balanced way so that we don't notice the impact and thus we call it 'clean'. Like 'sterilization' of grain, today I know shit is not technically sterilized but instead it's 'sterilized enough' for the purpose. Well maybe then it's also 'below critical level contaminated' when we go to call it 'clean'.
Just cause contaminant spores are in your sterilized grain doesn't mean they will get to germinate or even if they do it doesn't mean it will have an effect on your overall performance. Just assume it's always a lil dirty and do your best to keep it as far below the critical point as you can. I just KNOW some jars are fucked but then again I might fruit them cause I expect one medium-lsrgw flush out of that tub before it goes sour with the sweet cocoa butter smell lol

I had these same thoughts about it all being "clean" I've always looked at it like you're just trying to knock down all the other colonies of stuff so low that they just can't win against a large dose of healthy mycelium introduced to it. The mycelium it stronger, more of it, and it wins the race. Until it becomes old, weak, unhealthy, and then it looses the fight.
