Does this tub look healthy? 1

Just wondering what the mushroom gods think of this tub? Does the mycelium look healthy? There are a fair amount of pins occurring.

Thank you.

Looks good to me.. how old is it? Which variety?

It is eight days old, and is B+. I just wasn’t sure about the “fluffiness” of some of the mycelium growing. I thought bulbous growth was indicative of either a bacterial infection, or something like tricoderma. Any thoughts?

Nice... that’s fast! I don’t see any indication of contamination. The more bulbous spots are probably from a thinner layer of bulk material and the grain being closer to the surface.. the myc is going to grow thicker coming directly off the grain. Trich myc is super dense with almost the consistency of melted ice cream. It’s bright white right before it sporelates and it sporelates very quickly after you see the bright white.
Here’s trich before it sporelates

Thank you, what about blue green mold? Do you have any experience with that? There was a pinhead if discoloration that I removed and now I’m concerned about the health of the tub. I’m almost 100% sure that it was not mycelium bruising.

Did it rub off? If you’re getting a greenish tint, you should keep in mind that mushrooms have a golden (yellow) color to them and when they bruise (blue), the two colors together can make it green (yellow + blue = green). Usually mold will start on myc and infect fruits, not the other way around. Your tub looks too healthy and given the quickness of it pinning, I’m pretty confident in saying that you didn’t have mold on your pin.
Edit: although, I can’t zoom in very clearly.. is there any water beading in the surface? Are other pins turning blue at all and have you misted at all?

Idk... looks a little off to me... bacteria maybe: hard to say from a photo... speed nit always a good sign either as it could point to the presence of something more sinister... in any event I HIGHLY suggest taking a deep breath and stepping away from it: your frazzled nerves send out bad vibes lol... if the suspect reappears, scrap it and try again... might stagger projects behind one another until you get a hang of things and save yourself time waiting to start over

Yeah.. all good points. After looking closer, pins are pretty skinny too. Could be bacterial, especially if pins are bruising already.. either way, not much to do but see what it does

Not to say it wont flush: some of my strongest flushes were from bacterial subs stress fruiting... That said, I would NOT tolerate the presence of competitor MOLDS... Only suspected bacterial infection... keep in mind that if you suspect bacteria, it's a good idea to dehydrate them with heat... I believe heated dehydration to be a good idea for long term storage anyways, as it likely destroys enzymes in the fruit body which break down the actives over time

Thank you Caps McGee, I’m not too frazzled, just trying to learn. I have some more projects in the works, I just don’t like failing. Hoping for the best, I understand this activity has a relatively steep learning curve. I utilize heated dehydration already, I’m hoping it was just an isolated incident but I’m doubtful due to the nature of colonization.

No, it didn’t rub off but it wasn’t an actual hyphae knot, it was a two small specks of discoloration on a grain. That is why I’m a little nervous about the fate of this tub. I removed the piece, although I realize now I should probably have utilized a salt paste.

Idk.. still looks good to me. Surface conditions looks good.. pins looked like they were bluing in the first pic but I don’t see that in the new pics. It could have been mold on the grain for sure, but that could have been on the one exposed grain. 8 days is really fast but still not out of the realm of just a fast culture. It’s hard to say at this point though.. I’d say you’re still looking at at least one flush so I’d say let that take away some anxiousness but we are all just guessing at this point.
And don’t jump to salt pastes just yet.. have you ever used one? They attract water and will ruin a good amount of area around the pasted spot. Are there any more suspect spots around the area you grabbed the grain from?

Yeah, second set of pics look a lot better:I like to do a shallow top layer of coir only at spawn to help protect exposed grain on the surface until they recover and colonize the substrate around them... I feel as though this aids in surface conditions maintenance and results in better pinset with less attention... you should get SOME fruit looks like anyway

Here’s an update on the tub:

I was hoping for some more consistency as this grow is mycelium that was grown out of a tissue sample. How do I achieve those SoS (sea of shrooms) that I see?

Thank you, I will try that next round. Will that aid in a consistent canopy as well?

Fewer but larger fruit is fairly telltale of excess moisture... either you're over field capacity initially, or you're misting too heavily/or too often
If you're misting a lot, stop... if you're not misting, use less water for substrate prep next experiment
