Decent North Tas Find
    #26665326 - 05/11/20 08:02 PM (3 years, 9 months ago)

State parks re-opened and I wasn’t slow to get out there. Found all of these within an hour (after many, many hours finding nothing this season). Is there anything I should know about potency in certain grow areas and maturity? Thanks

Habitat:
Bottom of a sclerophyll forest in north tas

Gills:
Light brown - brown

Stem:
Bigger ones have a thinner stem (see pic)

Cap:
Varying from conical to flat tops, gold - brown colour

Spore print color:
Purple-brown, see picture

Bruising:
Blue bruising on stems and caps

They are all Psilocybe subaeruginosa

Waterlogged specimens are weaker, and smaller tend to be stronger.

Psilocybin/psilocin exists in the mushroom as a deterrent against predation by insects and slugs etc.  At a given time in development production of Psilocybin/psilocin stops.  So small mushrooms can be as strong as large.

Woodchip bed specimens tend to be far stronger than wild specimens, but there are exceptions.

Thank you very much, I’ll keep that in mind for when I’m out
