Thank you for saying that. I may try this. I dont have any coir but lots of verm but would like to stay away from straight pf tek bc of the low yield. Any other info like this is welcomed. Thank you.

Some yield is better than no yield. I also find it hard to believe you can't get your hands on coir. Every gardening store and every pet shop has it, it's available online on every corner and it's not expensive either.

Your spawn is not verified yet until it produces some fruits. Due to your method of obtaining the culture, it could very possibly be just mold, no cube myc at all.

You can do whatever you want and I'm sure you can succeed with unconventional methods at some point, but don't come here claiming your victories when there's none yet.

I’d think the best bet now would be fruiting invitro with a verm casing(no brf) lol.
I’d like to see pics of these ongoings.

Do you have a tek for straight verm casing? Would you need to pasteurize the verm or just bring to field capacity?

It would really help to see what you’re working with. Reg/wide jars filled 2/3 or 3/4. There’s a lot of unknowns coupled with known deviances. I’m sure you’ll figure a workaround.

The 99% colonised jar is a pint jar. The agar dish not cut on just has a piece of agar stuck to the lid. It is not contamination.o and the partial colonized jar is a quart sized jar.

Someone more experienced should chime in but that pint jar looks bacterial my friend. When I have a clean jar the myc is thin enough to where I can see the grains inside / behind it. An opaque, thick looking jar generally means bacterial but that appearance might be based on a couple other factors like moisture content, age, etc. Just my two cents, someone with a better eye can confirm.

It's hard to tell with the colour of the rice. I think it's worth spawning, just please don't do it to anything nutritious, because you'll fuck it up.

I'm not sure how to do in-vitro fruiting, I only did it once with coir and meh results. I hope someone else jumps in with more experience.

Well maybe itll be more interesting after finding out the results of my tub o something..its been 4 days since layering my spawn and Pasturized verm/brf mix in my tub so we shall see. If its successful i plan on doing it a few times in the same exact process. Maybe something can be taken from it, from someone. Even if its me finding out its not possible.

Sooooo just an update, contamination struck as was predicted by some of you. Luckily i did another mono tub with a different substrate and it has not contaminated. So at least i know it wasnt the spawn, it was just my tek. But i added it to garden so maybe nature can do a better job than me as i wait on my other tub and now the outcome of my new outside experiment lol. Thank you all for your time!

Hey btw do you have any suggestions on non nutritious substrate that would be a good match for the colonized rice grain? My verm/compost is ok but colonizing slow. I put up a separate post about it i think you may have posted on it also. I was going to try pasteurized straw next but maybe there is something better. I know coir is the go to now days but wondering if there's anything else more readily available?

You might try Black Kow brand compost manure. It’s cheap and available at most garden centers. I’ve read mixed reviews of it around here. Some people swear by it. You must truly pasteurize straw if you use it but a mix of the two might work well.

I’m in the middle of growing on tumbleweed and dead long grass from my yard.

Just threw it in a bucket and poured boiling water in and let it sit a few hours.

Another guy just did pine mulch and stuff from oak trees.

Seems like just about anything will work.
