My new work station! -- Flow hood content. * 10
    #26660741 - 05/09/20 07:49 PM (3 years, 8 months ago)

Decided last week It was time to step up my game. Making too many shrooms becomes boring at some point...one must become capable of making orders of magnitude more than too many..

:dealershrooms:

So I whipped this up mostly yesterday and finished up some final touches today. Seems like a daunting bit of work to do in 24 hours but the clock was ticking and I may or may not have had the whole thing 3D modeled to the thousandth of an inch and most materials and tools ready to go.

Shes 48" by 18" with 2 - 500 CFM fans feeding me some 99.999 air. Quite the step up from my MERV 14 furnace filter flow hood I been rocking the past two years. All said and done it served me well and I did a lot of work in front of it, however the 30" by 15" wasn't cutting it. Plus, due to the way I built it, I really only had like 10" of clear height to work ( super PITA G2G ) and no option to work bags.

Now I feel like I can host a soccer game in this thing ( and be covid safe with the fans on  ).

Really happy how it all turned out and cant wait to get pumping. I do have one final touch left, a lexan panel will be bridging between the 2 angled surfaces on the top of each side panel. Lighting is 7 watt mini recessed LED's that are steer-able. Also got my speed controller for fine tuning as just below full speed seems

Now just to wonder why I waited till now.

Edit: finished pic

Well, dont hate but I really took my time waiting for the right deal on filters and so I only got about $400 into this and still have another identical sealed filter as well.

Granted I already had the blowers so it was a matter of building materials other than filters.

To sweeten the deal, my significant other also relented on giving me an entire bedroom 20' x 12' with closet and an additional cedar closet 8x4.

That is pretty sexy.  One day...

Your orders of magnitude thing got me thinking, has anybody ever done a contest here like lagm but who can produce the most weight in say 3 months starting from spores??

There’d be a sudden spike in grain and tote sales the way some of you guys here roll.

I guess a more realistic way would be to limit it to like 15 quart jars at a time though.

Man would you look at that! This is really great!

I just finished my second flow hood, it's in my sig - I made a smaller hood I can move around. I put a grate on the front to protect the filter.

If I think you did an amazing job !

I opted for aluminum for $40. Rather than the same size piece for $125.

Also yeah, this may be many things, portable is not one of them..

Even better. Means your workspace is dedicated to it. As soon as things are too portable, I tend to shuffle them around too much.

It also means if my relationship takes a dump I'll need a forklift and construction crew to remove my shit from my house when leaving.

This is a thing of beauty. Very nice job. Love the alum top.

My partner just asked me to go spend like 8 grand on a separate out build so I stop growing in the house.....

I don't know if I am happy or sad, but I guess it is time to get my edible game back on. If your gonna spend money on anything, it should make money and I don't deal I just grow and toss the excess in the field....

That looks freakin' awesome, and here I am happy with my 3$ SAB with black electrical tape for comfort... To be honest I am not really sure why one would need a professional looking workspace like that, how many truckloads of mushrooms are you growing? hahahha!

:igotnothing:

To be honest edibles have become a thing for me so I'm chasing that hard and.... I like pouring hundreds of plates

I also like DIY.... and overkill....and comfort.

You guys haven't even seen the shit I'm going to deck this thing out with yet. The way I roll this will likely resemble the interior of the Apollo crew compartment.

Got my piece of lexan in today. I feel is unnecessary, but I do like a fully enclosed station as this is how I was setup before. I can keep a few things overhead and not worry about anything falling into the work area. Plus because. Used some small gauge aluminum angle to support the sag as well. Also decided to make a nice center cubby with some spring loaded cabinet hinges to store my tools / plate wrap etc.

Still going to add lighting for the said cubby and I will be putting up a paper tower bar as well. Also likely some more hooks and whatnot for ready access things.

Just poured 250 plates tonight no problem. Was able to have every single one up on there ready to go with room to spare. Could probably have 300, plus room for the 15 500ml media bottles required if I really wanted. I'm liking the room so I don't think I'll push it like that.

Fuck man that looks like an awesome work station, like another level type of shit lol. I am looking on fungi perfecti at their 12x24 filter, im pretty sure we have the same blower they recommend at work sitting in a pile of other blowers and motors. Ill just see about paying my boss for it and start the process of putting a flow hood together. I really need to stop procrastinating and get one done.

Don't wait like I did, I'm still kicking myself for waiting. Muster some motivation and your done in a weekend. I worked my ass off but was 90% done in 24 hours. A small box style like most people are running could be mostly whipped up in a few hours if you got a skill saw and know how to run a tape measure.

Oh yea I got all of the tools, and knowledge of how to put one together it kinda been some tight times financially. I should be able to get the blower from work, 1tdt2, for 50$ or less and a filter for 200$ or so. Iv got some plywood that is just sitting in my basement from renovating my bathroom so I'm aiming for the end of the month and I should have me a flow hood.

I like the addition of the drawer below. Do you keep you cultures you are working towards monocultures in there?

I often keep plates and LC in there, yes. It also has a plastic cover for when it isn't in use. But for anything that isn't "this week" Current I have a work table with a 4 foot wide lighted drawer below to keep all my plates.
