Poll: What is your favorite Beatles album? * 1
    #26660431 - 05/09/20 04:56 PM (3 years, 8 months ago)

Mine is Revolver but Sgt. Pepper and the White Album are closer runner ups for me. The Beatles have an important place in my heart and were not just a big and ongoing musical inspiration for me but also an important place in the tripping experience and a key motivation to eventually try LSD when I was younger. I never believed in the fear mongering about psychedelic drugs and John Lennon was quite simply who I wanted to be. Of course, I'm no longer 11 years old and now know that there are much better reasons to use drugs.

Enough rambling, though. Do any of you listen to the Beatles or the members' solo music when tripping? Do any tunes, lyrics, etc. speak to you? So many of John's songs starting with Revolver are perfect for psychedelic experiences, like "Tomorrow Never Knows", "Strawberry Fields Forever", "Across the Universe", and more.
What is your favorite Beatles album?
You may choose only one

I would say the doors is the number one psychedelic band. The Beatles didn't need psychedelics to be amazing and they definitely didn't need Yoko .

Fair enough, it's all subjective. I personally think of Jimi Hendrix as the best psychedelic music act. I really like his later work with the Band of Gypsys that was evolving in a more funk and soul kind of direction. Some even think that he would have gone down a jazz direction (I see no evidence of this), although this is probably because he used to jam with Miles Davis and they had plans to record together. I also love the Allman Brothers, whose music was influenced but not constrained by psychedelia. Not to sound like a smug dad rock fan (I listen to much more than just older rock and much more than just rock) but it's hard to find something better to trip to than the psychedelic rock of the late 60s and early 70s. They were, of course, the first generation of musicians to experiment with acid and the progenitors of that style. I love plenty of modern acts revitalizing and modernizing the style, like King Gizzard and Tame Impala, but there's just no replacing the original.

Rubber soul, followed by the white album then revolver... my take, for the revolver fans, try rubber soul a few times in a row and see if you feel different.  I will listen to revolver a few times and see if my ranks change, but i'm pretty stubborn so?

Rubber Soul has the advantage of being more eclectic than Revolver and its less psychedelic sound could appeal to people that prefer a more traditional pop approach by the Beatles. They explored many different sounds and genres and not everyone's favorite will be the psychedelic pop of Revolver and perhaps Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band

I guess it's no surprise Revolver is number one on shroomery

But I've always loved the album, it's such a rock staple. I've always loved the outstanding production level of it too, all them instruments and arrangements, and the cooky mixing... and chasing the sound.

Oh yeah, my favorite song is probably "Tomorrow Never Knows"..

Speaking of bands that were really chasing the sound, I love Gentle Giant the most - they really pushed that same scene that was originally manifested with the help of The Beatles, Procol Harum, King Crimson and alike.

I would link a video that just came out a few days ago, but I don't think it would be decent to do in a Beatles poll

Go look up Gentle Giant "His Last Voyage" (2021 Steven Wilson Remix), it's got a real trippy video to go with it too.
