LOL, become an OTR truck driver! You'll be by yourself in your truck 99% of the time...say goodbye to society,  you'll see the countryside and you definitely won't make $200K a year. You can trip the fuck out on psyches every time you stop at a truck stop for your overnight or weekend break. You'd fit right in with some of the drivers. I probably wouldn't trip while on duty driving, although some of the guys I see out here look like and act like they're on a permanent trip. I think you should look into a long haul driving job.

How old are you?

Psychedelic are great and all but also something most people grow out of eventually

I dont think this should be the main reason for changing your life completely around

But save your money for a few years and move to a quiet place. Start a small B&B or something to keep you occupied

I have been reading this book called "Awake at Work" and the main idea is that you dont take your job as something thats holding you back. Living from weekend to weekend only. But to try and be present all the time, incorporate the things that are important to you day to day.

Do not fight your circumstances but turn inward and change your outlook on those circumstances

Find peace and not giving a fuck in your professional life and see where that leads you

But I feel you man. This Corona lockdown is showing me how much I appreciate peace and quiet too.

While money doesn't equal happiness -- I'd say that if you're making a fifth of a million dollars a year, that you're (to say the least) doing quite well in said "rat race". Better than probably 99% of us here at the shroomery.

A 200K annual salary, again, while not an ensurer of happiness, does give one the luxury of having access to an array of options that the average blue collar person just doesn't have.

When I think of people struggling in the "rat race", I think of people who are working menial jobs where they're just a number who can be replaced by an almost infinite list of applicants at anytime. People who have minimal benefits and minimal vacation time who can barely afford one single mediocre vacation a year. I don't think of people making roughly 16 grand a month.

With that type of income you'll be able to retire exceedingly early. Assuming you're not a huge spender you'll be able to travel the world in comfort in your later years and will be able to move to virtually anywhere you want to.

I'm not saying that there's an income number that makes it acceptable to trade in one's soul and happiness for the corporate world -- I do understand what you're saying to a degree, but dude, you're doing significantly better than the vast majority of working people.

Thanks. I have to admit, the comments about the $200k job being great does make me feel grateful. But a few caveats: 1, I am on call almost 24/7 and typically work 9-10pm (2am nights happen maybe once a week); 2, if they decide to cut my bonus or fire me, it's roughly half that; 3, it's incredibly stressful; 4, you really do have to put on a "business deals are my life & passion" act to make it.

And, most importantly, 5. psychedelics introduce us to a world that's far more worth exploring than financial / business success.

I am in my late 20s. Before psychedelics, I wanted to be mega wealthy, so a lot of this is due to inertia. Then I took psychedelics, and, now, all I really want to do is think about how incredible death and existence is. It's sooooo magical. Yeah, I'm very obsessed by it. It's the love of my life. It hurts to be away from it or unable to come back to it, because of work. I'm 6 years into being "sober", and very far away from it all. And I want to return BADLY. Obviously, these feelings aren't exactly mainstream in my work.

I convinced myself yesterday that maybe, I should just "toughen out" and continue to do this BS corporate job for a long while more. I think 10 more years of this nonsense, and I'll move into full financial security, so why give that up?

But then, I watched a YouTube clip of someone describing an incredible effect a psychedelic had on him, and it was just incredible. It was just incredible. It happened to me too. I think the power of these substances are simply too much to give up or wait around for. WAYYY too much to experience. How can I give that up, even for financial security?!!!

I know I have hit on something absolutely incredible, and I want my life to be a vessel for that, but I feel trapped because I need money to survive. I feel like I'm being forced to sit in the darkness when I know there's an incredible light going on in the next room. I don't want to waste my life not knowing. This life is such a gift. To give it up without opening that door more... it's so hard.

It's been 6 agonizing years since I left the psychonaut world to enter Corporate America. I am working in a $200k job, but I have no work-life balance, it's extraordinary stressful, I'm wasting my life because I have no time for anything else, and, because of that, I'm not taking any psychedelics. I am the stereotypical guy who is staring out a window, upset with what he is doing with his life but feeling trapped and with no way out. I don't want to waste this life.

I have tried earnestly to find a lower paying job, but, my constant problem is that none seem to really provide a work-life balance, and they're all stuck in the city. I really HATE the city and it's noise, pollution, hustle-and-bustle, density, background anxiety, too many people around, and outrageously expensive housing costs for minimal living space... it makes me irate just thinking that that's somehow become OKAY for society. So, then, that takes me back to square one in my sacrifice-everything-here's-$200k-if-you-don't-get-fired job (at least that gives me some good savings for the hope of retiring in 10 years).

What I would really like to do is find a laid back job in the countryside, where I make enough to live and have my own cabin. I put that figure at $35k. What's out there? What's realistic? I'm very frugal, but I need enough to survive. MOST IMPORTANTLY, I want a job that fits well with a psychedelic life.

Any recommendations?! PLEASE, I'm at my wits end, I WANT TO GET OUT OF THE RAT RACE!

Here are a couple links I quickly found that should point you in the right direction for becoming park ranger:

"Those interested in learning how to become a park ranger should begin by determining if they would like to serve in a municipal, state or national park, and whether they would be better suited for working in law enforcement and protection, or interpretation and visitor services."

I havent had a job that I like since I began working at the age of 15.. at mcdonalds. Now that Im 31 and work professionally, i still dont like anything I do.

With salary like yours, you can invest into buying property, rent to people, and collect their money at the end of each month. Youll have enough time to do whatever you like then.

I dont think you will be happy going from 200k to a 35k job, but hey who knows, maybe you will, maybe thats the key.

Don't expect a job to give you work life balance, happiness or anything more than a paycheck and some benefits.
You must define and enforce the line and achieve the balance, the job will always take as much as you offer it.
The job, coworkers, boss or all of the above will bully and coerce you to work more, you need to say no, here is the 40 hours and that is it.
They will come and verbally tell you to work more but they won't put it in writing so fuck em, document that shit (verbal convo) but stand firm and say you need to be somewhere.
They can lay you off but if your 40 is productive they'll more likely lay off the tactics.

P.s. also use your paid time-off, take a long weekend and go to the woods and do some pyschs or stay home and do some

In the mean time, EternalDreamer, do you have a lot of sick or vacation days?
Use them.
You have a legal right to use those days off for yourself.
Call out sick and have a great trip at home.  Call out sick the next day if you haven't recovered yet.

You can absolutely love what you do, but this is more about the place you work than what you actually do.

Unless your employer cares more about the psych and well being of their employees than the company, and you have a ton of freedom to operate as you please, I believe your "dream job" can really only be achieved by owning your own business. Working for a company, you are working for THEIR dream and they are using you for all your efforts to achieve that. You are nothing but the oil in a machine, replaceable after you are old and worn out. They'll keep pumping you up with this "we are a family" and "we are in this together," but I can see past those sweet nothings and know for a fact you just want me to pump my fist so I can work harder.

"The more you work, the less you get paid." Your driving force is the amount you get paid. Work harder, you get a fatter bonus and raises, but that joy is only attained for an hour. Then you keep working harder, then it becomes increasingly harder to do less. Now you're sucked in.

"Why is my workload increasing?"
-Because your boss sees how fast you are pumping things out.

"Why don't we hire more employees to help out?"
-Company: "LOL get back to work"
-Company: "Not enough people are applying" Translation: "We don't want to spend the money"

This is my experience working (4 years) for the company I'm at
