I tried forever to inoculate a petri dish from syringe and couldn't do it, so naturally I gave up and just put a colonized grain on there.
So my question - should I just wait until one of these white growing rhizomorphic "lines" gets super far away from the center mass (thus indicating that is the strongest and most aggressive grower) and just assume it is clean and then transfer it over to a new plate? Honestly I'm not seeing much in terms of contamination which is surprising because I am pretty sure these grains are contaminated.

I’d let them grow out just a little more and then take a few pieces from a couple different spots and then see how they grow. You can’t really tell too much about it yet.
Transfer to new plates and you’ll know almost for sure whether they are clean or not, then look for nice unifor looking growth and transfer again. When doing those transfers I’d also go to a few grain jars just to have something going on

I'd let them grow out so you can see a bit more differentiation in growth rate before making your selections. Don't worry about rhyzo. I only have a few varieties and getting rhyzo out of them seems almost impossible for me, getting that can be about genetics and media type. I'd avoid the SUPER SUPER fluffy areas, as that can often be an indication of the mycellium growing over a contaminant mold. For example 6oclock bottom grain of the bottom plate in your first photo, I wouldn't take from there.
Overall I'd just select speed and dense growth.

I spawned some popcorn casings and had double-overlay cause I didn't put enough hydrogen peroxide in my automated aquarium mister. I only got one mushroom so I cut off the head part where the seeds fall from and put it in a jar of LC and sprayed it all over a tin of PF cakes I made with gravel, cardboard, and bisquick in my microwave. I think it will be good cause B+ is so potent. Triggered yet? Only a square would say "a cube is a cube."
No, this does not look right...
