ID request: Albino Wine Caps?
    #26660077 - 05/09/20 01:45 PM (3 years, 9 months ago)

Habitat:
Found in wood chips/mulch in a public planting area

Gills:
See pictures, appear white, I still have the mushrooms if more pics are needed

Stem:
See pics: they are the right size for wine caps

Cap:
White, but dissected through with some more ridges and valleys than you would expect from a winecap

Spore print color:
Have not printed, but I could if requested, they are fresh as of the time of this post

Bruising:
No noticeable bruise color

What are your thoughts? Are albino wine caps a thing?

If rare and if sterile and someone wants me to get a tissue sample to clone, let me know.

I am not a propagator or grower of shrooms, so if you want a sample, let me know how best to collect.

Possibly an Agrocybe species, given the appearance and habitat. Spore print should be "tobacco brown".

Definitely not a Stropharia. That genus has a filamentous cap cuticle, so it will split radially at the margins as it dries out.

These are splitting like a mud flat (areolate), indicating that the cap cuticle is cellular. As Anglerfish stated, Agrocybe (which has a cellular cuticle) is a good guess for the genus.

Happy mushrooming!
