Water droplets pooling on bottom of cakes in sgfc

This is my first try at an SGFC and was wondering if the water droplets forming on the bottom of the cakes on the tin foil means too much misting?
I've been following the instructions to mist until they glisten, but doing so the water droplets start to form on the bottom of the cakes.
I was worried this might cause contamination. Should i mist less even though it won't glisten the cakes anymore?

Cut the foil down to size of the cakes, which would allow less water to collect and gradually drain down to underneath your cakes. I would just get a pair of scissors and gently lift each corner of the square of aluminum foil and start trimming. That would be a start and wouldn't require much time spent in the SGFC working. Then when you harvest and dunk for your second flush, you can try something different. It's surprising how much water will pool from normal regular misting. Some people bottom water in which case you would create a little bowl with foil and a lid from whatever you made your cakes in. When I have bottom watered in the past from the beginning, I usually end up with a heavy pinset on the bottom of the cake, and then I flip the cake and rest it on a dry pile of vermiculite on top of the tin foil on top of the perlite.

Thanks Chikhai for the quick response and suggestions. That sounds like a great idea to cut to exact size, the only worry is that it might be too close in contact with the perlite at that point and colonize it.
I didn't want to deviate too much from the standard tek - and RR video shows a similiar foil square size.
I was thinking of elevating the cakes on a mesh trivet, think that'll be okay?
And in the case that people have bottom watered with success, the small pool of water shouldnt be too much of a concern for bacterial contamination right?

I am redoing my SGFC after this flush using rubber coated clothes hangers straightened out. I'm going to create a grid about 6" off the layer of perlite. That way I can have growth below and above, they have proper FAE, and misting gets the whole cake. Keep thinking ideas like that.

You're doing fine. If you're not running into issues with water collection with the foil then keep it as is.

Cakes won't colonize perilite to any detriment to your grow. There is not any nutrition to invite contamination on the perilite. So your good, cut down the foil to just under the cakes and you will allow better FAE at the surface of the cake.

Awesome, that sounds like a great idea with the rubber coated hangers~ Thanks again Chikhai for the encouragement, you made it much easier to get some sleep

Yep just get a pair of pliers or needle nose to make it clean. I run the hangers through and "tie a knot" in them with the pliers. My tote is fairly sturdy so I was able to get mine fairly tight. I was only able to test one because I have stuff in my SGFC right now but I will PM you a picture when I finish the whole thing.

Thanks Sockadin for the encouragement as well. True perlite doesnt contain any nutritional value , i was just worried that keeping it wet might potentially harbor contamination from the surrounding environment, and was also worried about it soaking all the moisture from the perlite based off the quote below.
Quote of quote taken from pussyfart
RogerRabbit said: The cakes will waterlog if they are allowed to colonize the perlite. Always keep them separated. RR
Quote: RogerRabbit said: You must keep the cake isolated from the perlite. The perlite is wet to provide humidity, and if the cake is sitting directly on it, mycelium will penetrate into the perlite, saturating the cake. For some reason, mycelium will soak up all the available water, even if doing so is suicidal. RR http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/16935266#16935266
And true , cutting down the foil to size as long as it isnt touching the perlite shouldnt be a problem and allowing better evaporation and FAE

Definitely agree on making round tin foil plates for the cakes (sounds ). Its much better than squares of tin foil.
