Being Credited as the "first to find species" in a particular area?
    #26658913 - 05/09/20 01:02 AM (3 years, 8 months ago)

Ok so say you find a species of mushroom that is said not to grow in your state, province, or even country. Yet you found it. It's there. How would one go about "claiming" that as the first (x) species to ever be found in your state.

For example: https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/26002160/page/5

Is that possible? How is it verifiable? What other things must be considered I nthis process?

Create observations on iNaturalist and Mushroom Observer, and leave a herbarium specimen in a local herbarium.  Label it with the iNat/MO observation # so they get the photos.

To see if you are the first, check iNat, MO and Mycoportal.

would that fully encompass everything needed? or would you need to upload to BIORXIV for example?

Some people publish papers about the first record of X in Y place, but they seem kind of lame.

Gotcha gotcha.. but as stated previously, MO and INat would be considered valid enough?

The only reason I ask is because of a response from this thread here https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/26658884
