Just made 3 LC of melmac TP culture I've had. It's on 11T now. I think I'm going to clone my nice fruits this go.

Is Melmac slower to fruit than regular cubes?
I've got some shoeboxes that are at three weeks now from spawning (1:3 ratio) and look fully colonised but no pins. I'd normally be into the first flush now of my regular AA+ grows.
I've cracked the lids a little bit more today.
Any thoughts appreciated.

I've had them take 30+ day from spawn before pinning. Are they at least knotting up? They will try your patience. Also slow to mature, I've had 2-4 weeks before they mature. But they are my favorite, very potent.

Varies from variety to variety but the OG mak I have takes right around 30 days to pin. It's a funny pattern - it colonizes the surface of the substrate at an almost normal cube speed (just slightly slower) to about 50-70% surface colonization, then just stops completely and sits there for like 2-3 more weeks doing absolutely nothing, then suddenly it starts colonizing again to 100% and knots form around that time and pins immediately after.

Damn that would be so nice! I haven't found any that pin faster than 30 days.

twistedzombie66, I am running some melmac tp at the moment. They pinned about a week ago but they still have some time to mature, maybe 2-3 weeks till harvest. I'm running them cold since I can't heat my lab and it's freezing here. If you have no luck with that swab hit me up I'll get a set of swabs to you if you want, and if they produce spores.

Yeah my MMTP ran the tub in a week, knotted up, thenโฆ.sat there for prob four weeks. I had actually thought it was contaminated or something and given up on it but was busy and didnโt bother tossing it since it wasnโt moldy. Then two pins showed up and maybe a week later a real pinset filled in. Then they also took much longer than normal to mature but it was worth it, lots of 120-180g fruits and the smallest were probably 35g.

I had the same exact experience with MMTP.. not sure why I kept them around but glad I did as well.

My faster melmac 118 takes 21-23ish days to pin @1:3 (including top layer), colonizes just like normal but likes to consolidate/shrink the sub real good before it fruits. Currently trialing p9โs compression tek and a couple different sub ratios to see if it makes a difference in fruiting speed or yeild. This clone has performed best @ 1:4 iโve harvested 198g dry off about 3.5 lbs but median @ 1:3 is about 150.
I think the faster โmelmacsโ are either reverts or hybrids not the classic

No, thank you though. I got so much going on at the moment plus I got stuff I want to get to, I just don't have room, time or resources. So much to do, so little time. I'll pm you when they are done.

You gotta either bury the swab in the agar or dip it in sterile water first. I have a very low success rate dry streaking swabs. Some folks cut or tear off chunks of the cotton and put them directly to their plate.
I prefer to just break it off and jam it in.

That makes sense! Ive been leaving the swab in there and noticed it helps. Thank you

Did these 'macs come with snowcaps for the holidays or is something wrong? It's from a recent clone that definitely didn't look like that lol

Thoughts on this box? It's a month old and the culture was sold to me as Melmac.
I have another box just like it.
Spawned at 1:3 including a thickish top layer, probably 3/4" of coir.
I've increased FAE slightly and things are looking a bit "blobby" โ no knotting.
Will it ever fruit?
