Anything special need to be done if growing Melmak TP? Or do you just grow like any other cube? Better on dung or 50/50/cv?

Nah no special requirements. Never tried dung, but cv and straight coir work like a charm. Deeper sub and lower spawn ratio is helpful. 1:3 and 1:4 work great ime

Thank you! I was going to go with the 1:3 ratio. How thick of a sub 8cm?

Looks great! I can't wait to get back on the mak train when I move and can set up my grow again.

Trying out an isolate of Melmac for my first cultivating adventure. Very exciting so far. Very cool.
Some notes so far:
- Very aggressive culture. From time of mixing it took 4 days to fully colonize fruiting medium.
- Wont effectively pin without very high RH (95-100) and very soft FAE. Was wondering why it wasnt trying to fruit as aggressively as it vegged. Swapped from monotub with inconsistent RH to a 99.7% RH martha tent with less aggressive FAE. With these changes the tub started pinning within hours.
- Chugs back water like crazy. Whenever I think I've gone overboard with hydration and dial it back, we see bruising on the tips of hyphae. Recovers within hours of exposure near max humidity.
Dark pin caps. This might be because of my mistakes managing hydration.
These pics are from today, entering day +5 from appearance of first pin.

I finally put my Melmac TP agar plates to grain! Hopefully in a couple weeks I can post some pics. I started with a swab to agar, this was my 3rd transfer which went too grain.

A quick update. Turns out mt strategy of listening to what I thought the lil guys were telling me was faulty. Surprise surprise.
Starting to see signs of brown blotch on stems that were just a bit too soggy. Dropped the RH to 85 for the night with plenty of HEPA fresh air changes.
Hopefully things dont get out of hand! Will post pics tomorrow.

It should be ok. It sounds like they got pseudonoma. I had pseudonoma on my mushrooms before. It didn't effect my caps just the stipes. I was still able to harvest and consume them without worry. IME,I just stopped misting and increased FAE until harvest time. After that I resumed my normal practice with less misting. The later flushes had no issues.A basic breakdown of what I've found in researching it when mine got it is.. Pseudo is caused from too much moisture. It's already on you mushrooms ,which they can fight off, but over watering causes it to become a problem.

Thanks man I hope so. Things seem to have really slowed down height-wise.

My Melmak TP were super slow to pin, and then the pins took forever to mature. Hopefully that’s what you’ve got going on cuz it’s a nice pinset.

A.k.a. what was the potency level compared to normal cubes? If you have had any of the PE variants or normal PE how did macs compare to them. I'm growing my first macs and am hoping they melt my brain when they are ready.

I actually never ate any of the Melmak but based on the feedback I got they seem to be in the same ballpark as PE.

Here's a shoebox of BK Mak I fruited. I kinda like the nipple pheno. Sorry for the blurry pics I shattered the lens on my camera...

I have a question about the mycelium with Melmac. I usually don't have problems getting micro droplets on my mycelium and achieving proper surface conditions. With these Melmacs the mycelium around the edges of my tub just soaks the water up and doesn't bead up and sit on top. In the middle it beads up nicely. I'm also seeing most of the knotting around the edge with a few forming in the center, so I'm assuming this is still "good mycelium" along the perimeter. Does this look normal for melmac? I'm using cvg bulk and a pseudocasing of 1/2 inch c/v Any comments about how they look good or bad would be appreciated.

Yeah that looks great so far. MMTP was by far the slowest to pin out of all the cubes I’ve run.

Oh good! I was getting worried. I spawned these on June 23rd and went straight to fruiting conditions. I heard that these were slow so I wanted to give the a head start. Amy recommendations on FAE amount? I heard they need more so I added a 2 inch hole to my pastywhyte tubs but I have them covered with 2 layers of tape right now. I can take that off if you think I need more.

Are you folks just misting the surface to hydrate, or are you finding you need to add more water than misting can quickly provide? I know all PE forms are very thirsty compared to other cubes. I've grown APE before and it was thirsty. I'm new to Melmak though. I know casing isn't needed but I put 50/50 on there (over 3/4 of the surface) just to help me better judge surface conditions and hydration. I am finding that I need to water the surface with a syringe - misting isn't enough, and a 60qt mono is taking about 50-60ml of water on the surface per day. Does this sound about right to you? I'm confident with my FAE settings - I have good condensation in the tub with some dry areas 1.5" - 2" around the intake and exhaust holes, so I know I'm not losing a bunch of moisture to evaporation.
Thanks!
