What’s with the marshmallow type looking stuff? It looks like Lion’s Mane with a slight brown yellow hue.

I want to say this is either Mexican Dutch King or Martinique.

I can poke it with a sterilized tool and see what happens. It all happened so quick over night I really don’t have much more specifics to give. Basically all was going well and I thought the tote was overall looking healthy.

I'm thinking bacteria or green trich...or both. You can keep an eye on it but it's probably gonna turn bad and not work out.

I hope not... that would be so sad. I also have a SGFC chamber right next to it in the same space with fruits right now. My cleanliness has been even higher standards lately. I guess sometimes shit happens eh? Looks like my edit above didn’t go through so I will add it here. About a week ago I set that tote on an uneven surface and something pressed the center of the tote up and made the substrate “break open“ or raise up slightly right where that massive blob is in the OP pictures. Any thoughts? Could that damage be related?

Typically when you get contamination before the first flush it means it came from your jars. Factors for that could be technique, inoculant, SAB, jar lid setup.
Technique-If you moved something the wrong way or something fell into a jar
Inoculant-If you used a spore syringe right into grains and didn't use agar first. Spores are contaminated by nature cause they grow in open air. Agar helps to grow them first so you can then cut and transfer clean mycelium to another dish where you can achieve a clean culture.
SAB-While they do work pretty well they're not very sterile at all. They work a lot of times but there's always that small dice roll that something is floating around in it. It's just not like a flowhood that filters air particles down to the 0.2 microns
Jar lid setup-The polyfill in holes jar lid setup works fairly well but just like an SAB it can have a small dice roll of imperfection. It's not like a synthetic filter disk that filters down particles to the micron

Thank you so much for the detailed response. This is why I love this community. I guess this is a good time to review my practices from beginning to end and see if the next one will go better. The good news is that it's spring time, so this tote could be buried outside!

If this was your tote and you had my options; a) bury it outside or b) see if it will fruit inside... what are your thoughts?

-- Edit --
I took it outside and buried it. It had some green pop up, and I wasn't comfortable with it living inside with my other totes. Thanks guys! Here's to hoping the next one is successful.
