The thrill of the chase.
    #26657972 - 05/08/20 05:32 PM (3 years, 8 months ago)

Whats goin on everyone. Located in SEPA... and man can I say I am beyond bummed. This is my third year hunting in general, we tend to have two solid mushroom seasons may-late june and sept-oct. Ive been on the hunt for Ovoids for what feels like an eternity. Ive come to terms with the fact that mushroom hunting (currently my favorite hobby) is similar to fishing (my second favorite). You can spend hours in the right habitat looking high and low and find nothing, and there are people out there who search one habitat and find them within minutes. Im the high/low guy. Today we had a solid misting/light drizzle and I spent 5 hours being patient and searching around boxelders and a shit ton of jap knotweed. No luck. On my walk today I had this vision from the mushroom perspective, me walking right past them and them having a little laugh togeather almost like "hehahaHEHE heeeee canttttt finddddd usssss". I thought that was funny but Im here to say that no matter the success rate of hunting, its the challenge that draws me. I may never find them, maybe some people are simply MEANT to find them or maybe I am not a good looker! But one thing is for sure, I will continue my quest and enjoy being in nature with the simple beauty so many people take for granted. For everyone giving me tips, and suggestions I appreciate you. And for the amateurs like myself, in order to find the object you must first LOOK! Time will tell if I ever will find ovoids, maybe next season maybe the season after that... But I will never give up!!! Cheers to all!

I understand what you're saying, it took me 2-3 years of many times, searching 3-4 times a week in the right seasons from 3 hours to other times 6-7 hours. Although they were fruitless in the psilocybin department, these hunts allowed me to learn countless other species and really be able to understand the right types of habitat, and the other important factors.

I feel like it's definitely worth the effort, as you also get to spend hours at a time within the solitude of the woods and your own thoughts.

Not to mention the physical benefits.

I would definitely encourage you to keep going out and learning as much as you can about all the factors of where the shroom you are looking for would be growing.

If, however, you are adamant about finding ovoids, the easiest method by far, is searching mulch, whether it's in parks or community gardens as well as woodchips, however the wood chips must have not been moved for a couple years and be integrated to a certain degree, with the natural environment around it (and obviously the woodchips/mulch must have enough moisture).

Good luck

I agree. I love the hunt and fishing is my other main hobby also. Finding my first patch felt like a huge achievement. When that area received some competition and I needed to expand my search I wondered how hard it would be to repeat my first success. I've now found a few patches in different areas of my city and it's been a great adventure!

The hunt is the best part,  nothing like walking up on big flush of mushrooms and they don't even have to actives to get me excited
