Hey guys, wondering what y'all thought about these. https://www.amazon.com/BIPEE-Polystyrene-Petri-Culture-Sterile/dp/B01DBBC0KM/ref=sr_1_37?dchild=1&keywords=plastic+sterilized+petri&qid=1588974141&sr=8-37
Figured obviously they're not quite as separated as I'd like them to be, but maybe I could start in one corner, and work my transfers as needed into adjacent plates. Then, let the original cultures grow out after being transferred just to see if they're still clean. Alternatively, I could start in a single plate, and isolate out into this dish. My main concern is that spores could transfer from one dish to another as I handle them, potentially. The advantage is that you don't have to transfer from one dish to another, making my sessions smoother and more efficient.
I've ordered 2 rounds of pyrex dishes, both came in with some broken. Eventually I'll be ordering thicker ones, but for right now I'll be ordering a couple sleeves of plastic ones. Not planning on getting too heavy into culture work for a little while, for the time being I just really need to start some new varieties from spore and isolate to clean up.
Until then, I'll be fuckin up some no pours just to have something to keep me occupied.

Idk what you're looking at. NEST or Fisher are good brands of petris. They come in sleeves of 20 I believe.
My advice is dig deep and just get a 500pack. You'll use them over time and it's among the best money you can spend on this hobby.
Buying small packs is just a waste of money.

I'm between cases and grabbed a few ten packs of this brand off Amazon and they seem pretty good quality- came in thick bags no leaks, no cracks
Another brand I really like is Falcon, I've gotten them of FP before - they packages open with a pull tab and have a nice sterile sleeve folded up inside

Just kinda looking at options for the moment, when I decide to rip the band-aid, I will buy a case of 500 - and it will be a good brand. For right now, I don't feel like spending ~$70.
Like I feel you guys, you're speaking my language if you're talking value.
Those trays come in a 10 pack, so I figured that's a decent enough deal. Again, if I start with MS on agar, I can take 6 different transfers from the same plate, and keep better track of how isolates are performing. I settled on 30 from one of the sponsors, that'll be enough for the time being. We're currently both furloughed from work and I've been bleeding out from all the supplies I've been gathering lately, so $14 right now is preferred just to keep me occupied till I have fruits. Have 8 shoeboxes going - probly start to see pins in the next few weeks!! 10 PF jars noc'd a few days ago. Honestly, I don't have plans to have more than 10 active plates at a time, and transfers will be executed on an as-needed basis till I have plenty of plates. Don't see much of a need to go crazy with agar work when I only have 2 varieties on hand atm.
Also, 10 dishes in a sleeve seems fine for me. I'll never have an operation like bod does lol 25 in a sleeve is a bit much till I get rolling. I'd just hate to pour more dishes than I'll need and end up having them dry out or contam.
Punx, how much did you pay for those?

There really isn't much reason to take more than one transfer from a germination plate. You're just looking to take a transfer from clean germination to the next plate. I sometimes make one more transfer just to make sure my culture is clean

I feel you. Once I get established, I'll probably act more reasonably haha
I'm currently in the middle of my first grow. The game plan for right now is as follows: Once I finish my first flush, I'll clone both the biggest and the good looking average fruits. Those will be grown out for the sake of ease. I'll take prints both at random and selectively. I currently have some pre-poured plates going that I ordered from one of the sponsors (some came w yeast colonies already growing when the sleeve was labeled PDA, not PDYA...) that I took some live myc samples and attempted some MS streaks just to start to get the hang of procedure. Those will be transferred if needed and grown out. I hope to stagger my project start dates, and take advantage of all this free time while I still have it. Anyway, rambling...
The reason for 6 well dishes would be to help keep track of isolates and see how growth looks both in the plate and full scale. I doubt the genetics will be superb from as MS syringe, so I'm just trying to get started with the weeding process. Long term I plan to run, hell, maybe 6-8 varieties at once. I have no need for a room full of monos, I just value diversity.
Plus, I've always dreamed of that suitcase in fear&loathing lol
