Hi guys... hope all is well. I have kind of a problem at the moment... want to do some agar work but cant find any petri dishes in my country at the moment. Ordered some online but because of the lockdown its taking ages to arrive...
Is there some other way i can do it without petri dishes like maybe small round tupperware containers or glass jars or something like that.... your help would really be appreciated... thank you

I use 125mL canning jars. Same type used for grain but smaller. Two holes in the lid and a tyvek filter. Prepare your agar, pour some in the jars (1/8 to 3/16 inch thick), place lid with filter, cover in foil and sterilise at 20psi for 30 mins. Allow to cool slowly in steriliser to reduce condensation. Leave foil in place until ready to use. Cover with plastic wrap for long term storage. Jars and lids get washed and reused. Cheap, simple and less sterile work using this method. Pre-pour is more of a noob method but I've never felt the need to move away from it.
Also, this post should be in the General Cultivation forum. You would get more replies this way and it is most certainly not an advanced mycology topic. The gloves and petris make things look pretty "sciency" but agar is about as general as it gets. Cheers.

You probably could use polyfil instead of tyvek. I don't use that stuff for anything though. But, it's covid time so you've got to use what you have on hand a lot of times. Give it a shot, you've got little to lose. There are lots of effective agar teks, do some more research and see if someone else has something that will work better for you. Many ways to skin a cat.

Sometimes I use the little condiment cups I find at the stores, 50 for $2.00. They aren't sterile do I spend a few minutes and clean rhem eith ISO then let dry and pour. Not as good as plates or jars but they work.
