Invasive species of Mushrooms
    #26656095 - 05/07/20 09:30 PM (3 years, 8 months ago)

I just learned that Amanita phalliodes was originally only found in Europe and has since spread to most parts of the world. Going particularly wild in California with our native oaks, its list of host species grew.

Got me wondering if there were any other known invasive mushroom species and what sort of impact if any they have on our native species.
For example I wonder if some of our other Oak loving Mushrooms became less common like Cantharellus sp. for example. :strokebeard:

Interesting topic
Dutch elm disease is common example an invasive fungus. Radulomyces copelandii is another example which forms more of a fruiting body. (http://www.fungimag.com/summer-2011-articles/FungiSUM_AsianBeautyLR.pdf) These examples are pathogenic and saprotrophic fungi though.
I am curious if we know enough about mycorrhizal ecology to accurately predict the effects of Amanita phalliodes but i agree some species with a similar niche might get pushed out and I suspect biodiversity will likely decrease
