Driving on Acid... Never again! * 4
    #26655824 - 05/07/20 07:02 PM (3 years, 8 months ago)

The one and only time a tried to drive on acid... Never again!

This occurred a few years ago whilst still deep in my experimental phase; new to psyches and really drugs in general, as I had recently gained access to a lot of the substances that I had, up until then, could only marvele at from a distance. Only having experiencing lsd once prior on about 100mics and having an amazingly wonderful time traveling through the space of my mind, I was eager to continue my exploration.

So about a month after, I made the trip to the city to re-up. Gauging from my first experience, I figured I could expect visual distortions to begin to manifest roughly 30-45 minutes into the trip. Thus, I decided ingestion on the way back home wouldn't pose much of an issue. Needless to say I was completely and utterly wrong.

I needed to fill up so I pulled off to a nearby gas station. As I stood there by the pump, I immediately started to feel anxious, severely regretting my decision to take the tabs before getting settled in. That feeling did not cease. I wanted to be home more than anything. I pumped about $5 worth of gas and let hurriedly.

Once I hit the road again I was no longer questioning whether or not I was coming up as the effects hit me harder and harder. At this point, for any of you guys familiar with Atlanta roadways know they can be kind of nerve racking for most sober minded people let alone someone tripping. As I continued to drive, I felt like there was a steadily increasing delay between my actions and what I was perceiving to happen in reality. It got the the point where I felt like I was perceiving a completely different reality than what was really happening. I was completely manic at this point, and was totally convinced that I had already crashed and was still barreling down the street, even though my perception indicated otherwise everything seemed to be moving in slow motion. I would press the gas and I swear I could hear the engine rev yet in my perceived reality nothing changed, I just slowly chugged along. I pulled over to a side street convinced that everything that I was perceiving wasn't real and in reality I was in a major accident and I was in shock.

When I parked my car and stepped out, I looked down at the crinkles of my jacket and jeans  believed they were impressions made from my broken bones pressing against them. Luckily right where I had pulled off there was a small urban park, where I decided to go and walk. As I began to settle down and realize that I wasn't in fact in a horrible accident, I started to calm down, though I was still tripping hard. Also, though I realized I wasn't in shock, I was still convinced there was not any feasible way I didn't hit anything. With this thought lingering in my mind, I meandered about for more then 4 hours through the trails and nearby neighborhoods trying to sober up. Wandering into the streets at times, nearly getting hit, as I couldn't for the life of me gauge the actual position of cars and their speed.

I never got to the point where I felt comfortable driving so I ended up just calling my brother to pick me up. I had to pick my car up the next morning thankfully having not gotten towed or cited, and spent the next few days waiting for something to come up regarding my erratic driving behavior. Nothing. I am so incredibly lucky it doesn't even make sense. I find this story to be embarrassing and I am ashamed to have been so careless. Ultimately, I'd like for this story  to serve as a cautionary tale to those of you who may consider doing such. I just watched a video about someone talking about how fun it is to drive on psychedelics and it reminded me of my story so I felt inspired to share.

When I was in high school, and infinitely dumber than I am now (which is saying something), I drove a car full of teenage friends (who were tripping face also), on the come up of a potent acid trip, on an hour long freeway trip on a busy Dallas Friday night to a haunted house (it was around Halloween).

One of the scariest nights of my life. I could've killed all of us. I felt like I was in a fucking space ship traveling at light speed with a million asteroids (the other cars) going by me. I felt like I was melting into the seat, too.

It was horrible and it took every bit of my being to keep it together just to make it.

Never. Again.

Yikes!

Thats some scary shit. Ive only driven on Acid a couple times, no high doses thou, fuck that!

One time, i ate some fresh homegrown shrooms and had the impulse (lowered inhibitions) to go driving at night. I mention it in this thread: https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/26096692#26096692

Very dumb thing to do but sometimes on shrooms, u lose those important safety inhibitions (like drunk driving), and just give zero fucks and do it anyway for the thrill.

I think I thought that it would take a while to kick in. And wouldn't kick in until we got there. Jeezus was I wrong.

Kinda like OP I think the shit started coming down on me like a sledgehammer like 20 minutes into the drive.

Man, I have a difficult enough time just navigating my playlist or using my computer on acid. I can't even imagine driving on it. The worst I've done is a couple of times I was a bit more high than I thought that I was/should have been, and even that was a harrowing experience. Driving on acid is just nope nope nope nope nope nope nope. no.

The best thing OP did was to pull over into that park. That was smart OP. Like, if I somehow accidentally dosed acid without realizing and somehow ended up driving after that, I would pull over like instantly, get out, and walk the fuck away.

I have only driven on mushrooms one time. It was also in high school. I was tripping at home and I didnt want my family knowing I was tripping. I asked my uncle to go get me a pizza from caseys(10 mile drive from my house), of course he had been drinking and said "I've drank too much to drive you go get it" and tossed me his keys......oh fuck. What a situation lmao so no way in hell I'm telling them I'm tripping so I take his truck. The way there was kinda ok. By the time I got to Casey's I was full blown tripping. I mumbled my order for a pizza and he said the total, I couldn't hear him so I look at total on the machine....it is in alien characters o.o so I just handed him all the money I had and he gave me back my change hahahaha
The drive home was rough. Luckily roads home have little to no traffic so I drove VERY slow.....long story short 0/10 would never do again

As much as I wanted to be home I knew I wouldn't have made it. Just stuck it out in the cold for a few hours and I'm glad I did. The visuals and time distortion were way too much. Sat on a park bench for a bit and watched people and their pets freeze still then warp ahead around the trail, all the while thinking about how dumb I was to think I could drive smh crazy crazy

Furthest Ive pushed it was driving home from a friends house about 45 minutes into the come up.

Luckily he lived 2 miles away and it was a straight shot home. Hit a segment of the drive where it felt like I was driving, but not moving forward. Almost like standing still and seeing the road stretch ahead into infinity. I just kept going as a slow pace and made it home before the peak.

Only driven once on the tail end of an acid trip

Actually got pulled over by the cops and got a breathalizer test, which I passed

Ha, nice. Got lucky! Did they suspect anything? What was the claim the cop said you did? Crossing the center line perhaps? They always pull me over for that one.

Yeah that's about my experience.

Drove very drunk and very tired before and blacked out a few times only to wake up to find myself careening off the road or into oncoming traffic. I'd say the former is more scary but they're both pretty scary in their own ways. Drunk driving I think is scariest because of inhibited judgement, the "this is fine" instinct.

Ya know alot of laws are bullshit but DWIs exist for good reason. 1. it's not even fun most of the time 2. it's dangerous as all fuck

Just stay put till you sober up folks. Or call someone who is sober.

Being a passenger isn't so bad but being responsible for handling a spaceship that could collide with all sorts of things at the speed of light and hurt you or the people around you just isn't a recipe for a good time.

I hate to say it, but I’ve driven on acid dozens of times, mostly when I was in high school, but a few times even as late as my 30s. I used to drive from New Orleans to Dallas about once every month or two. I often ate a few mushrooms to help me stay awake and to make the ride more interesting. I’m a pretty smart guy, so I know how stupid that is. But I did it.

I took a road trip with some friends in my early 20s. We drove from New Orleans to somewhere around Hot Springs, Arkansas to camp and dig for crystals.  We dosed about 30 minutes into the ride. A couple hours later we were all on a heavy trip, including my buddy who was driving. His girlfriend was up front with him, and I was in the back with a girl I was really into. We were into some deep conversation, all four of us.  I mean, I’m talking probably a good 5 to 10 minutes and suddenly the car is off the road in the median and we are heading for some big ass pine trees. So my buddy, whose driving a fucking beetle, doesn’t throw on the brakes. He tries to get back on the interstate and nearly plows into an 18-wheeler. Somehow we survive.  But here’s the thing. As I thought back on it, my recollection is that during that 5 to 10 minute conversation, he and his girlfriend were turned toward the back seat like we were all sitting around a table chatting.  It was like we all forgot we were in a car. I don’t think he ever turned to look at the road.

I’m sure it’s awesome if it all works out and everyone has a good time and is safe...until it’s not

Ive lost 2 cars and broken more bones than I can remember to some fools driving high/drunk.  Apparently some people don’t understand that even though a red light may morph into another color on hallucinogens, so long as it’s the top most bulb on the traffic light - that means stop in my city.  :trekfacepalm:  Each time, I was stopped at a traffic light waiting for it to change and they came over a hill from another direction in a way that made it so that I couldn’t see them until they were on top of me.  Did I mention there was no other traffic each time? Lmao.  Don’t drive shitfaced drunk or high or tripping balls to the max.

As Mr. Hicks once said:  Always that same LSD story, you've all seen it. 'Young man on acid, thought he could fly, jumped out of a building. What a tragedy.' What a dick! Fuck him, he’s an idiot. If he thought he could fly, why didn’t he take off on the ground first? Check it out. You don’t see ducks lined up to catch elevators to fly south—they fly from the ground, ya moron, quit ruining it for everybody. He’s a moron, he’s dead—good, we lost a moron, fuckin’ celebrate. Wow, I just felt the world get lighter. We lost a moron! I don’t mean to sound cold, or cruel, or vicious, but I am, so that’s the way it comes out. Professional help is being sought.

A Similar logic can be applied to the traffic light.

I used to drive the causeway, a 24 mile bridge between New Orleans and my hometown, 2a.m. after partying in the city, tripping balls. It’s totally dark out there in the middle of the lake. One night my buddy Greg, who died a couple years ago drunk driving, were heading home.  There were hardly an cars on the bridge. As we came up behind one car, I started getting a really eerie feeling.  Have you ever been in a room with someone who you can just feel the evil coming off of?  It was like that. I was feeling it the closer we got to the car, and before I said anything Greg yelled “slow down.”. So we back off, and the feeling subsides. But now we just had to see what was going on, so we started to pull back up to the other car. That feeling came again, but we pulled up beside the other car. There was a woman in the driver’s seat. She was throwing her head back and forth with her hands up in the air like she was having some sort of demonic fit.  No one was in the car with her. So, I slow down again. We were both freaked out. Well, we follow her off the bridge. We couldn’t let it go, so we follow her for about 10 more miles. She ends up on this long dark road way back in the woods. She pulls into a driveway of this really huge and very old house. She jumps out of her car and RUNS to the house.  We were both like, “what the fuck!” and we speed away.

I still have no idea what was going on with that woman. It was definitely one of the eeriest things that has happened to me while tripping. It still creeps me out.

BUT it doesn’t end there. Two days later, Greg walks out his house and finds a black, cloth mask nailed to his front porch.

I don’t know whether the two things have anything to do with one another, but I was taking a LOT of acid back then, and I certainly found the connection at that time.

Hey, I hear you, but I literally grew up driving on psychedelics.  From the time I had my license when I turned 15, I drove fucked up all the time. All of my friends did. We didn’t think a single thing about it. We got pulled over by cops all the time too. They’d just take our booze and tell us to be careful.  The 80s were much different than even the 90s.  When I was 14, we could drive up to the drive-thru daiquiri shop and drive away sipping on a jungle juice daiquiri.  So I was pretty much trained to drive impaired, and to be honest It took quite a few years for me to figure out that was actually impaired. I had myself fooled into thinking that I was more careful and a better driver when I was tripping. And if I was drinking, I thought the acid countered the alcohol effect so that I was more aware.  Pretty fucked up thinking. Admittedly, I was a drug fiend and acted like one for many years. I don’t drink anymore and stay away from benzos, opiates, and every other drug except for hallucinogens and cannabis, and I use those sparingly. I never drive impaired.

I could see it being less dangerous if you're near the end of the come down but I would imagine in most cases fatigue (mental or just general) would be the main concern then.
