kinda makes sense. Book I'm reading now suggests a blower between 200 and 250cfm per cubic foot of filter. Assuming 0.8 static pressure filter and 0.2 static pressure pre filter. Then it has a chart that suggests 800-1000cfm for a 24x24 filter.
Since that blower is a 2 speed that supposedly does up to 1360 I figured it would be overpowered and I could dial it back some by blocking the intake.
Really I just need to know if that's the right kind of HEPA filter I can figure out and buy the blower later I only have enough for one component now.

I'd try to get a better efficiency filter, I think that people use the .3 micron but if you're going to spend that much money on something I'd go with  99.9995% @ .1 microns. If you buy a centrifugal fan you can use a speed controller instead of causing stress on the blower by clogging up the intake. Squirrel cage fans don't perform well with high static pressure and don't allow for the use of a speed controller.

Didn't even consider the micron I was looking at the 99.99 I knew I didn't want to go with the 99.97 or whatever the lower efficiency ones are I'll keep looking thanks bro.

Squirrel cage blowers work excellently against resistance, that's wht they're
made for. A furnace and ductwork create tons of resistance on furnace blowers.

Vortex fans are the ones that don't work well against resistance, but they can
be wired to a speed controller. My 1st hood is a 2x2 with a SC blower hooked up
to a speed controller and I never had any issues for 3+ years, but they can burn out some motors.

I'm just relaying what I was told by the HVAC guy at Grainger.
I noticed while looking for a Dayton blower for my 24x48 filter that I couldn't find single blowers with high enough CFM at my required SP. He recommended a centrifugal fan or run dual squirrel cage. Dayton style blowers are great for filters with lower surface area, not so much for larger units (even though I'veseen it done I couldn'tfind one for mine ).

I'm not an HVAC professional, but he certainly was.

This is what he recommended:

Runs at 911 CFM @ 1.0" SP, but runs at like 1500cfm free air I think...can't remember.

He doesnt know what he's talking about then unfortunately. A centrifugal fan is a squirrel cage blower
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Centrifugal_fan

Quote:

such a fan is also called a blower fan, biscuit blower[citation needed], or squirrel-cage fan (because it looks like a hamster wheel

Imagine how much resistance there is in a bounce house. Squirrel cage fans are
what they use to blow those up

Mycolorados hood is 4x4 or something like that and he uses an old furnace blower
if I'm not mistaken. I use an old furnace blower on my current 2x3

Ah, yeah I'm sure you're right. He may have been having one of those days I suppose. Fuckin "professionals" lol.

4x4 is pretty epic. 24x48 seemed like a monster at the time.

I use dayton 1tdu2 for my 2x2x6. I have it bogged down with two pre filters and filter cloth folded on top of that.

Hey big question.  Are 99.97 hepa filters good for FH.
They work just fine right?

Yes they work but the more efficiency the better.

I have the same blower on my 12x24 hood. The issue with piling prefilters on is that they add significant static pressure, the video I posted shows that one of the most common 1" filters on the market adds .4" SP. Too many will reduce the efficiency of your hood. 1 filter should be plenty.
Look at how quickly the CFM drops of with added SP from free air on the Dayton 1TDT2.

So to get 100ft/min of flow across your filter you need 400cfm, at 6" of depth your HEPA probably has .5"SP min by itself (but more than likely sits at 1"SP)
which puts you at 450 CFM. Not much wiggle room there for many prefilters before you inhibit laminar flow. At .8 SP you're already below the min CFM for laminar flow. If your HEPA has a flow rate of 100cfm at 1" then you're already below laminar flow without adding prefilters. You may want to check that out

If mine isnt bogged down with all it is it would blow way to hard.

How many of you guys have 99.97 filters in your FH.
I think mine is 99.97.
I think when I buy my next I want 99.99

The numbers don't lie, brother. That blower isn't a good choice for a 2x2 hood blowing 400CFM. I have the exact same blower on a 12x24 without a prefilter. Blows just fine at 1"SP with less surface area without having to be choked down at all.

If you have the option to buy 99.9995% @ .1 microns definitely go for that. It's what I purchased and it's the industry standard here.
I've seen hoods built with the one you're talking about, they usually have metal fins and cork sides though, same efficiency. I'm sure they work or people wouldn't use them.

2 things I would appreciate some in put on

Would a pinning plate be clean enough to inoculate grains with or would it be better if I transferred to a new plate?

How are you guys re-hydrating your shoebox substrates. I have been misting directly after harvesting until the surface is soaked but by the next day  it is dry to the touch. Should I be letting it soak for a couple hours and pour off excess?

Just put a couple cups of h20 in the sb till the sub floats and dump it out after a few hrs or overnight. I usually just dump mine in the morning when I get up.
