Your grow space has awesome vibes, I dig the houseplant mix.
On side pins, I started tamping down my subs pretty tight when spawning and started getting clean straight edges without side pins. Never tried a liner though.

Yes, you are correct about this.  If you have the time to mist and fan, then you should give liners a shot.  Casings are also really easy.  They just ensure that the top of the substrate stays at a high humidity.  It will definitely reduce the side-pinning. 

Damn, that piece that broke off is doing so well that I wonder what would happen if someone broke their substrate into 6-8 pieces and fruited it that way.
