Most of us do 12/12. I don't know if there is a disadvantage, but I doubt there is an advantage.

Is there a disadvantage of letting it on for 24h a day?
I've heard i think from TC can't recall exactly but they actually grow more during the night cycle from what i understood. Try and search post it. Thinking RR or Bod

thats what i thought, i just did a quick look on the forums and ir seems to be the general concensus
It's not the general consensus, it's flat out wrong. Bright light is far better than not-so-bright light, and fluorescent will produce a superior pinset to incandescent. The best light to 'read a book' with is incandescent, so don't even consider that an appropriate light source.
Light from the sides is fine. It doesn't have to be directly above the fruits. RR
From my personal experience the closer i get to actual outside climate when they want to fruit in season is when u get good flushes. Nice humid fae'd up and 12/12

I wonder if you can use light to slow the growth.... I have experienced more growth during the 12 light off cycle.

I’d be curious if the 18/6 ( or a slight higher light on vs even ) would have any additional effect on growth.

Lighting schedules are not as important for fungal growth as they are for organisms that actually photosynthesise, like plants. I've used passive lighting from my bedroom ceiling light as a light source when I was younger and sloppier, and still managed to get good pin sets/flushes. I've also seen people give as little as 1-2 hours of light a day with good results. I generally stuck to 8 on 16 off.

I wouldn't even consider adding lights except if I was growing in a closet or some other dark shit.

Definitely. Mycelium and shrooms benefit from light thru the whole process.
Im currently experimenting with "bare minimum" lighting, about 2 hours a day. Wish me luck guize.

You'll know if you are depriving them of light when after they pin. Grown in absolute darkness they will fruit but they will look like uncircumcised weenies (tiny caps fat sluggy bodies) and will grow multi-directionally.
Your yield will be affected.
You can argue against what I've said but this is what I've experienced first hand over the years.
I wouldn't be surprised if potency is affected as well but there are too many variables for me to be able to gauge that.
