ID Request, Maryland (near Annapolis)

Habitat: Found today in Maryland, area between DC and Annapolis.
Found it growing on a tree trunk buried under mulch next to a parking lot. The area is fairly steeply sloped, and appears to be a dumping area for trees, mulch, leaves, and branches.
Not sure what kind of tree trunk ... was in an awkward spot.
Gills: Brown-orange color, pronounced gills. Have it resting in a cool dry place, hope to get some spores ... hard to say in its condition.
Stem: Length: about 6 inches Diameter: 3/8ths to 1/2 inch at the base Color: tan-orange Texture: firm and crispy/stringy (reminds me of asparagus stalk), solid
Cap: Diameter: 3 inches Color: brown on top with slight nipple
Spore print color: Unknown at this time. Not sure if spores will happen, as the shroom was quite wet.
UPDATE: checked the wee beastie this morning, no spore print. The cap is still moist, and there is a moisture stain on the paper (on which it sits).
Bruising: No bruising
It smells like a portobello mushroom. Very "mushroom-ish."
The pic without the shroom in the image is where I found it.

So I just read that holding the shroom in the pic is bad. Sorry for that. Yes, I'm a n00b.
I can take more pics, although the shroom is starting to dry and shrink.
I'll be revisiting the spot where I found it ... easy to access, looks like an interesting place.

How is holding a mushroom in the picture bad exactly?

Good question, I've no idea. Was mentioned in another ID thread by one of the posters.
No worries either way.

When holding the the stipe covering the annulus for example, as was the case in the other post. Covering a volva, or a bulb on the stipe are other examples. Covering identifying features of the mushroom isn't the best if one is trying to identify said mushroom, is it? 🍄

Looks like Pluteus species, either Pluteus cervinus or petasatus.
