I'm looking in Westchester County, would love if you looked it up it's about 45 mins north of NYC. Maybe you can give me some pointers or something but as of yet they seem to not grow in many numbers here.
A park I was recently hunting at was the Rockefeller State Park but I think it was too dry when I went.

hey guys looking for some input .... i started a nice size patch last year under a silver maple tree from some wood chips i got from a friend . this is the first flush/ first time for the patch fruiting . everything was looking super healthy since sunday. the when i went to go check on it today all the pins looked shrived up and burned/ dried out . i was watering it somewhat regular or when the wood chips looked dried, if rain was in the forecast i did not water. im thinking this past weekend we had a nice warm up and maybe everything dried out on me that quick ? any input is much appreciated .
note: first three pictures are from Saturday or Sunday .... some of the pics i started to pick some of the blued / dried out ones so no animals or anything got into them.

I’ve been waiting for this spot to take off for two years. Now it’s exploding.

My spot finally started popping today. There’s so many of them. I only took one picture because I was in a rush but there will be more tomorrow!

So, it does indeed need to be a larger river, not creeks. Thanks for the tip, Don!

To anyone in the right habitat but finding nothing: try switching water sources.
I have a large creek nearby that is PERFECT but: nothing. I even spread spores there last year.
I used maps to find a second perfect area on a different creek last weekend and: 100s of fruits everywhere.
They are probably 10-15 miles apart. I can't figure out what makes one spot so much better.

Pinch the corner of the cap, wait 30 sec or 1 min - it will or should turn a blueish color.

They aren’t bothered by a couple freezing nights once the season is full swing. In fact, this year we got a couple freezes after weeks of beautiful spring ovoid weather and they exploded after that freeze! They weren’t out until after that cool snap. 🤷♀️ My experience anyway. I say get out there!

Reporting from just outside Philly. Three years and it finally happened! I finally changed from checking around small creeks to a major river and that was all it took. I found them within half an hour and walked away with about 400 grams wet from one little patch.
They definitely hide. The only reason I was able to spot them is because someone had stepped on the celandine and I spotted one on the edge of where they stepped. The photo of the ground is before I had even picked a quarter of them and you can't even see them! It makes me wonder how many I've missed without even noticing.
I'm taking spore prints to confirm but I'm basically certain. The habitat. The blue bruising. I thought that they smelled the way cubes taste. But it was definitely the first time I've ever seen a mushroom that I thought could even remotely be an ovoid. Mostly everything I've seen up until now was like, "not a chance."
I'm feeling a bit dumb though because I got swept up in the moment and picked some that weren't mature. I left some pins but was definitely too grabby :/ but lesson learned
THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO POSTS HERE AND RESPONDS TO NOOB QUESTIONS!
I've spent countless hours studying and searching and the thrill I felt when I finally found them was amazing lol I feel so triumphant!

Wow plexxed..happy that you've been able to find them
If I may inquire, how big was the "major river" you found them by?

I moved from looking at streams that were maybe 10 feet wide at most to what I would call a proper river. I have terrible spatial intelligence but at least 50 feet. 100? I'm not sure
For me, when I think of a creek or stream, I'm picturing something that you can readily wade through. It's not too deep or too wide. You might even be able to cross by just stepping on rocks. I can't speak to the depth of the river I was next to but it definitely wasn't something I would think about wading through. I would instead think about swimming across. Hopefully that's a useful heuristic.
Here's a photo of where I was looking before. It has all the indicator species but it's a much smaller waterway. The place I was at today was maybe 10 times wider? The type of river that you would have no trouble kayaking down. I'll snag a picture next time I go because I'll definitely be headed back.

I will say that it wasn't a place I would've expected. The banks of the river were relatively steep and the difference in elevation between the water and where I found the ovoids was maybe 5 feet or so. Maybe more. And I found them maybe 25 feet from the water. It definitely felt like I found them in the park and not in the wilderness, if that makes sense.
