Outdoor Cubes--anyone succeed in the Midwest?

Hi Folks, Hope everyone is well.
Today I was going through some jars. I found a couple of quarts that are nearly colonized but that I found a small bit of yellow/green on. I'm not going to risk them indoors. But the mycellium, other than that spot of contams, looks good.
I'm curious if I could make a little outdoor patch with it? I have a fern bed next to the garage. It's probably 80% shade, stays cool.
I was thinking I could dig a trench a few inches deep, pour in the contaminated jars, and mix it in with soil/manure, and then just let it go. Keep it watered...
I'm going to try it anyway--the mycellium is there and it's put it in the ground, or put it in the compost pile. Just wondering if anyone has had succes or any thoughts on it? It's spring here--the very beginning of the growing season.

It does work, and is a fun way to try to salvage something from some not so ideal spawn.

years ago, near a midwest city with an arch, we dumped massive lab waste in a hole in a yard.
the pile even got blasted a few times with a garden hose. we got a shocking amount over several flushes.
this was in august sept.
yes it can be done in the midwest.

Thanks for the replies! I think I'm going to let them go a bit longer--they are predicting a brief cold front, and maybe a bit of snow this weekend. But maybe early next week, I'd like to dump some back in the fern bed.
What do you think? Any special preparation? I keep chickens--I always have an abundance of poopy straw bedding (maybe too hot for cubes?). I can get my hands on cow poop too. Maybe mix the manure in with the soil, then the spawn into that, and cover it over with some soil?
I think it's a good plan--I can't fruit them in the house, but would rather not shit-can them either. If I can get anything out of it, it would be a good thing.

Yeah the chicken poo is too hot. I would try the cow poo.
Cubes are hearty. Many times I've thrown away old sub or contaminated grain only to come back and find the trash bag full of fruits haha . I also used to dump spent subs behind my shed and one day I found cubes all over the yard! I got so excited thinking spores from my clothes must have spread - but it turned out animals had buried tiny pieces of grain all over the place haha.

Cubes will grow outdoors in Wisconsin from mid May to September/October just fine.
I think its supposed to frost tonight i gotta cover my raised beds. Allium species don't give a fuck but lettuce and shit doesn't like it much

I heard we were maybe in for a flurry and some frost. Come on spring!! Locked in the damn apartment waiting for Covid to come knocking....
I'll put out the grain when I get a moment. My other plants (culinary herbs mostly) are still indoors. I've been hardening them off a bit in real sunlight and wind, but glad I didn't put anything in the ground yet.

Alright--I just made the worlds biggest PF cake :-) I have a heavy plastic tub, maybe 40 gallons, that I layered with home made compost. It's good stuff--composted leaves, garden waste, and chicken litter. It's over a year old, so it should not be too hot. I layered the compost with 6 quart jars an 1 2qt jar, and covered it with a couple more inches of compost/old potting soil (perlite, verm, peat) and top coated it with a bit of cow manure. Gave it a good watering. If it fails, I just dump it in the garden. Should be interesting.
