Pins on Cakes
    #26652041 - 05/06/20 02:03 AM (3 years, 8 months ago)

Hello friends!

First i wanna start with how overwhelming all the informations about growing was during these years im growing. So much topics so much opinions so much discussions about simple stuff. The forum is really saturated with dual opinions and there is really one truth and its simple.

Im saying this because ive read dozens of times that light is beneficial in all stages of growing. But surely it isnt. My cakes started pinning and it was because of ambient light. So cakes should always colonise in dark.

Ive dunked all my cakes and now am interested how this premature pinning is going to show in my grow? Ive surely lost some of the mushrooms. Will others still be good after dunking and birthing? Should i remove pins?

Thanks!

Were the cakes fully colonized when they started pinning?  Surely if light were that big of a pinning trigger, ppl would have grows pinning before their subs were fully colonized every time because they give light from the day they’re spawned.  Chances are you either have a contaminant that causing early pinning or just a really fast culture.

Is this just because if 1 cake or have you done multiple cakes that are all doing the same thing?

Was this MS or a clone/isolate?  Sub strains can pin at different rates too

Those pins should develop fine outside of the jar.  One of the reasons for giving light from the get go is so that they pin quickly after being birthed.. but if you’d rather colonize in the dark, no reason not to, but I colonize in ambient light and don’t have early pinning before full colonization.. it’s usually pretty quickly after full colonization but I don’t see that as a bad thing.

The bottom wasnt still 100% but i dont take it as a guide because its really thick at the bottom... Some cakes were about 90%, some 100% so i left them for some more.

All cakes have some pins on them, the spore is from trusted website so i think its strong, i didnt isolate more. Also i dont think its the contam because i rarely have them, from the beginning i didnt struggle with it at all. Only when i try mono i get contam. I will try mono soon but didnt have much success with it so far.
