Transfers from older agar and transfering agar to older already PCed quart WBS jars
    #26651694 - 05/05/20 08:55 PM (4 years, 8 months ago)

So if one had agar that was accidentally let grow out and it reached the edges, can you still take transfers and if so, is it a bad idea to take transfers from the edge still? Can I take transfers from towards the middle?

And I have quart WBS jars that I PCed like two weeks ago. Is there a way to use them? I want to transfer agar to them.

Everything you mentioned is doable. As long as the jar isn’t growing anything it’ll work but might be a little dry.

Letting a plate grow all the way isn’t inherently bad, it’s just that contams are more likely to be near the edge. But if it’s clean it’s clean.

You can transfer from anywhere. I recently cut the original wedge off a plate that was like two months old and put it on a new plate. Took a little longer to get going but it’s fine.

If it was my plate, I would take a transfer closer to the middle. I would transfer it to a blank plate and let it grow out before using it.

You could use those jars, if it were me, I would make new ones.
