strength athletes and psilocybin use
    #26651406 - 05/05/20 06:28 PM (3 years, 8 months ago)

After a long time off from physical activity I had started training again this time in powerlifting and strongman. After several months I had regained a lot of my old strength and was well on my way to making serious progress before covid-19 happened and everything was shut down. My modest gains at the time in lbs lifted were a 305 squat, 285 good morning, 205 bench, 125 oh press, 245 floor press, and a 324x2 deadlift. While these aren't the best numbers in the world they were mine and I am still proud of them. While at home with limited access to equipment I'm doing what I can but it's not great.

Anyways, more to the point. I'm curious from others who do strength training of similar variety and also ingest psilocybin. How do you find this impacts your training? Is it positive or negative? If positive in what way and if negative in what way and what benefits are worth that cost for you?

As in microdosing, or just occasional trips?

My working out is always at its best for weeks/months after a solid trip. It usually gives me a good kick to get myself more focused and healthier.

Any sort of physical interaction would be pretty non-existent though

Thanks. nothing here is specific to macro, micro, or other sizes
also not specifying what type of reaction

just interested to hear from others what there experiences have been

what exactly about the trip and the level of intensity do you think is beneficial for you in this way?

I think it's just the way the trip reconnects me to what my body actually is, a million complex processes going on but more or less a fragile bag of bone and meat. It makes me very much reconsider what I put in my body, as well as how I keep it healthy and strong.

Tripping also largely changed the way I work out. When I was younger it was all pretty much for the aesthetics, now my strength training is more towards overall strength and function... exercises that will make my body work better in general while improving my soccer and hiking capacities and decreasing injury risk. I didn't have body dysmorphia or anything, but one trip pretty much pointed out that I was working out in a way that wasn't genuine or healthy for me back then.

ok thanks for explaining. hopefully we can hear from others about their experiences and how it has impacted their training.

Haven't used it in training, very interesting thought as it is now thought that psilocin/psilocybin helps form new neural connections in the brain.  If this happens in the portion that controls muscles, it may allow for more simultaneous activation of muscle fibers and thus increased lifting capacity.  I know for beginner lifters/those returning, a lot of the very fast initial gains in strength is due to recruitment and coordination of muscle fibers due to better function of distal nerves.
