Plate pin to grain

So this just came up in another thread but the original pin clone one is locked.
If I’m gonna drop a pin right to grain does it need to be super young or will anything work?
I’ve got some 3-4inch shrooms on plates before but idk if they’ll work as well as a small new one.
I only tried this once before with a mid aged pin and it didn’t work but I’m pretty sure it was cuz the grain was bad.
Absolutely nothing grew and the wbs just started looking darker and darker after a week.

I've gotten it to work. I used a mid sized pin that was still nice and vibrant and it worked. I tried dropping a pin cluster from a cake into grain and so far it's doing well. I've had them go green several times as well.

Have you gotten the crazy fast growth like cronicrs thread?
That’s what interested me about. A super aggressive clone culture is perfect, then if it turns out potent with a good yield you’re set.

Mines never been super aggressive like that. I feel like it's about the same as a tablespoon of spawn. But that's just my results.

Yeee might cook up some grain tonight and give a transfer a go tomorrow. The pin I have is fairly young, still growing but he's large.

Yes plate pins to grain work well. I have a jar that is almost done with a very healthy mycelium culture due to said pin.
