Somewhat old spore syringes in fridge/ How to reanimate?
    #26649156 - 05/04/20 08:52 PM (4 years, 8 months ago)

Have a couple of spore syringes that have been sitting in my fridge for 8 months or so just wondering if there's a certain amount of time I should leave the syringes out at room temperature before attempting to use them to inoculate agar?

Tried using the search function didn't really find what I was looking for?

I was almost going to throw them out as I thought I heard they're only good for a couple of months but then searched on here and some people got their spores to grow after years in storage in the fridge.

They don't have to be room temperature, go ahead and inoculate straight from the fridge if you want. I have used a print that was years old. You should have no problem with your months old, refrigerated, hydrated spores.

Ok thanks. I wonder why Sporeworks and other spore suppliers then say that they only guarantee their spores will remain viable for a couple of months? I've also seen it posted online after googling around that they only stay viable for a few months is that maybe if kept at room temperature?

It's like some appliances that come with 1 year warranty, but you expect them to last way longer.
