Is it best to search near water, and are they found in stands of Japanese knotweed?

I've heard of them being found in Japanese knotweed before. From the pics I've seen here tho, it seems they're often found surrounded by stilt grass, stinging nettle, celandine, creeping Charlie, and jewel weed.

Hope you washed your hands real good with all that poison oak in your pics.

Yea it was nasty but there was some jewelweed nearby. Crush up the jewelweed and rub it all over the burn. It significantly lowers the burn. Also works for poison ivy.

Well it's definitely too early for Ovoids in Ny, thought I'd give it a try but we need another 2 weeks or so. At least I scouted a bunch of promising spots.

Hello mushroom lords, this is my first post and i'm trying to show some photos so, sorry if it's a disaster.  Did I find some very sun-dried ovoids or maybe agrocybe putaminium? Best regards and many thanks

Is Maryland better than DC? I've got knotweed, stilt grass, box elders, rivers, nothing.

Sometimes even if they habitat is pristine, they just wont grow in your area for some reason.

I have lived in my town for quite a few years now, and I've searched everywhere. They just don't grow here.

However, if you drive 30 miles to the north of me, near the river, then you can find em!

My finds were the worst ever the other day, so my season is over.

It' just not worth all the driving and wasting of gas to not find any.

People that can just walk out the door to their local parks and woods to find em, just don't know how lucky they really are

My apologies if this isn't the correct place to ask this question.

Should I privilege topography or indicator species? I'm in SE PA. There are a ton of little streams that have celandine, box elder, knotweed, etc. However, many of the streams I have been foraging at have relatively steep banks and/or at the bottom of a hill.

I'm starting to get the impression that better habitat is where the banks of the water have a gentle slope and the surrounding land is relatively flat? Is this accurate? Did I just basically describe a floodplain? lol

This is my third year looking and I've learned a ton from reading these threads so thank you all. I've yet to find anything but it's always fun to look. And today I even found some oyster mushrooms.

Here's a few photos of the type of habitat I've been looking at (hopefully I didn't mess this up)

Not an expert at all, however, an observation I've made over viewing basically all the Ovoid pics on this site and countless others online, I would definitely say that a flatter biome is preffered, I've yet to see a picture where the ovoids are on the side of a hill. (Btw I feel the struggle, spent 5 hours today on the hunt for ovoids)

If you live in SW pa you can go to any river or stream and find ovoids within minutes. Passed a few good habitats while working so i stopped to check and I have come to the conclusion these mushrooms grow literally everywhere and are not rare at all. Probably the most common mushroom in my area right now. Been pulling pounds everywhere this season is crazy. Never seen em in numbers like this get out there it would be hard not to find them

I find the biggest patches at the base of hills where the flat part meets the slope. Deirbs and water tend to pile up there and create big flushes
